the £4m line and £23.5m is being spun by Martin Ogden (Manc mouthpiece). Hunter has said he waved £2m and we got all the £27.5m fee, this has been backed up by Tony Barrett this morning.

Operation cover up Moyes and Woodward embbarsments is well under way!

United insist they have paid Everton no more than the £23.5m release clause that was in Fellaini’s contract – a clause that expired at the end of July – but Everton say the deal is worth £27.5m to them. The difference is understood to be Fellaini’s own cash sacrifice.

By submitting a written transfer request on deadline day Fellaini, left, has forfeited about £4m in loyalty bonuses that would have been due on the two years remaining on his Everton contract . That has allowed Everton to declare the deal as being worth £27.5m to them

that's the express, telegraph, and independent all saying Man Utd paid £23.5m (the original release clause and no more) and we declared it as £27.5m because we 'saved' £4m in payments to Fellaini. I'm inclined to believe that this is the case over and above Everton's Official Site stating the 'fee' was £27.5m.

That's utterly pathetic from them. They got played and they've now sent their lackeys out for damage limitation.

David Prentice ‏@prenno 23m Are United briefing to save face over Felli deal? Some press say he took £4m cut to force deal. Not what I hear. EFC got 27.5m. He lost 750k

This sounds far more beleivable. No way his loyalty bonus was anywhere near £4M!

Any fee Fellaini sacrificed was paid back in signing on fee from United.

In terms of why we are all happy he handed it in. He handed it in ON THE CLUBS REQUEST...saving us money and making the deal even more palatable.

Rooney - we demanded he put in a transfer request because we didnt want to sell and the club needed the fans to see it was Rooney forcing the issue.

IMO

Good luck fellas, Vic looked genuinely gutted in his interview and I hope he does well for WBA.

Man Utd showing again what a shambles they are starting to become, why not just shut up and say nothing about the Fellaini fee, Woodward & Moyes performing some sort of comedy double act at Utd and long may it continue.

Top and bottom of it: they wasted the opportunity to get Fellaini at his release clause price believing they could get a desperate club to lower their expectations on his value, the desperate club held their nerve and United were under enormous pressure to pacify fans with some signing on the last day and relented. Basically: Moyes thought he knew all about our finances, and said so, and insisted turning the screw would produce a result...instead, the pressure miounted on him and he had to give way.

All the world saw it that way and so United have to pathetically try and manage the narrative of the event so that other clubs in the future dont start thinking they're weak.

Nailed.

Utd trying to make out they did not mess up and sign him for 4m higher than his buy out clause

Moyes and co taking a hammering in the media

This is why I can't make any sense of it. Why would we declare £27.5m if Man Ure paid £23.5m, surely it means that Standard Leige would benefit. I have never heard of a loyalty bonus being the remainder of a contract either. Always thought it was 1 or 2 months wages. Hopefully we can let Man Utd put as much spin on it to try and hide there embarrassment then we pop up with a statement saying 'Yes we received £27.5m off Man Ure for Felliani' to put it too bed and open a new can of worms at OT

That video of Big Vic made me sad, he clearly didn't want to go and wasn't full of the joys at all- here's hoping that he's appreciated for the decent guy he is and does well at his new club.
