Everton Youth Teams Thread

only 1 really
Haha, but we really miss him when Oumar's not playing
Change Foulds for Garbutt and you're not far off our starting 11 for the rest of the season , hoping of course that Jonjoe, Oumar and Ademola don't come back to the U23s much. I would then be happy with that defence , with Beni and Adediran ahead of them . Feeney and Gibson are startling to bed in to a good defensive partnership given their age, and they'll hopefully get even better given the chance . It's the attacking four which needs to improve. Charsley is a pretty sound performer, rarely plays badly and chips in with his fair share of goals, he probably needs a loan move in January. But the other three positions are up for grabs which is great for the youngsters competing for places . Donkor is worth more game time , Bowler and Broadhead too, but I still don't see the quality goalscorer we need anywhere. Bite the bullet and buy George Hirst in January or get Walsh onto it, he must be desperately scouting every striker in Europe between 18 and 30 at the moment.

..stood next to him at Bellefield many years ago watching Everton v Manchester United in the Lancashire League. Ryan Giggs was an unknown youngster. Every time he got it, SAF said " take him on, enjoy yourself". It was an insight and much different from what our coaches were saying.

Enjoyed that, class. Shows a lot about how Ferguson was looking long term, right from the beginning. A lesson for today's managers/coaches/football authorities, perhaps.

Were any other players playing in that match who made it to first team or top do you remember? (for either utd or Everton)

..I'm sure there was but it was a long time ago and I was up there every Saturday morning for many years. Indeed, there were often first teamers playing if they were coming back from injury. That incident stood out because it was a rarity to see SAF up there but he was obviously tracking Giggs.
