Everton Youth Teams Thread

This is really interesting as he's joining our stable of England youth players but has 5 first team games already for Fulham.

I think he must be thinking he'll be fast tracked into our first team squad.

I wouldn't look too much into what he's done for Fulham. If you look here: https://www.transfermarkt.com/denni...16&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=

Nothing first team related since February and even that was unused sub. I think he's understood at 18 he's not going to be starting in the Championship for a promotion chasing team (Sessegnon exception) and has seen what can happen if you play well in our academy. Logical move for any young lad in my eyes these days.

Still, he must have been 17 when getting game time. May not be as good as I first thought but that's good going in the championship.

You're spot on about joining us, that really should be our target to sign England youth players into the u23s like him and Gibson and get them following on from the likes of DCL.

Interesting you mention Sessegnon. Theres surely going to be a big buy at left back next summer, fingers crossed its him.

I would be very surprised if we have the amount saved in the budget for Sessegnon. Bigger teams than us will get him.

I noticed Leicester had two bids knocked back for that young Sheff Wed striker we were after. £2m last offer.

Hi all,

Birmingham fan here in peace.

On the comment about Walsh not playing enough, we signed him after failing to get 4 combative ball playing midfielders in a row, the latest failure being Alex Song, so if Walsh is good enough he will be starting for us.

I guess my question to you lot is, is he good enough?
He's not really combative in the sense you mean mate. He's quite small in stature but can look after himself. He's a proper footballer though and many on here are surprised that he hasn't been given an opportunity in our first team yet. He plays with his head up and is a very good passer of the ball, both long and short. If I was to liken him to somebody it would be Paul Scholes in his later years when he played deeper. Obviously I'm talking style rather than actual ability here;).

He has been unlucky with injuries at bad times and was originally selected alongside our other young lads in the worlds cup winning U20 squad, but had to pull out through injury.

You're getting a little gem in my view mate, but can't say I'm not a little concerned by the fact that you're expecting a combative type player.

He didn't seem shy at Yeovil though?

Have to say, being under Redknapp will do him the world of good I think...

Left back is weird

Baines 33 in December
Cuco in reserve
Gibson 17 in under 23's
Connolly / Galloway on loan

Could be Walsh is thinking to see how Connolly and Gibson do over the season and perhaps Koeman will go for one behind Baines?

Hirst also is strange, as is Brooks at Sheff Utd. We were in for both but didn't want to pay extra money for either...surely we could have stumped up the cash for them and slotted them in the u23s?

The Yeovil club and fans loved him when he was with them. Also on Youtube you can catch the recent Chelsea U23s game (match starts at about 1hr 45mins) where he was up against Eden Hazard and didn't do a bad job at all.

He's a little terrier of a player - as Barnfred55 says, not necessarily in terms of tackling but in terms of standing up to bigger players - with a decent eye for a pass and who doesn't hide when things are going badly.

So yes, I think he is good enough - the question has always been his size, not his heart, but he has answered the doubters so far. And I think your fans will also fall in love with him.

As I said mate he can look after himself. But he isn't a terrier type like Gana or McCarthy, which I think they are expecting by the sounds of it.

I agree though, I think he can do well there and Harry has a good record of trusting younger players.

If the hunt for a striker is anything to go by we won't be getting a replacement for Baines anytime soon

looking forward to seeing what Liam Walsh is about, so highly rated playing for a decent manager. hopefully shines there and we have another gem come through, was more highly rated than davies wasn't he

We have a stocked U23 so maybe we couldn't guarantee them regular matches? Or we just didn't have the spare finances. Interesting to see how much the new lad was.

Also think Gibson is a CB by trade but I could be wrong.
