Everton Youth Teams Thread

I was there today also mate. Agree with you that Matty Foulds stood out today by a mile, followed by Bowler and Robinson. I was at Flint last week too and Henan looked great on the ball in both games but just needs to release it a little quicker at times i think. Decent performance by the lads against a physical side.
It's a difficult one this. Physicality is such a big part of league 1 and 2 football. No quarter is asked or given. Are our players going to develop quicker, staying in the under 23s surrounded by players with better technique and ability or being subjected to the much physical approach if league football lower down the ladder? I guess we need to trust the judgement of unsworth and joe royle on this one.

I was reading a while ago this is one of the biggest problems in England player development. The amount of intimidation and unpunished fouls in lower leagues meant that skill players weren't flourishing on loan in the lower leagues, yet when refereed with top flight rules they were the best players. It was a big factor in City/Chelsea using overseas loans even for UK players.

I see it as a factor in Dowell not being loaned out whilst Walsh thrived. Think an early "reducer" would take Dowell out a game whilst Walsh would do something snide to get revenge*

*unfortunately this saw he red carded after 3 minutes when I'd paid £18 to see him play for Yeovil

Foulds has been left back a lot last season hasn't he + now moving across into the centre?

Bowler I read is a left footed winger but cuts in from the right? Is that where he played for us?

Do Foulds or any of our u23s for this season (excluding the u20 world cup lads) have any England youth caps?

Feeney was captain of the U18s last season and also played for u17s year before. Alex Denny plays for the U17s and was in the starting XI I believe in this years euros final.

The likes of Jones and Broadhead have represented Wales at various youth and U21 levels and likewise Lavery and Charsley for the ROI. Antonee Robinson I believe has represented USA.

Personally I actually wish we were bringing in less players from outside the club into our youth setup. Should only be the outstanding talents imo, as it is already hard enough to bring players thru, and there simply isn't enough squad space to bring through that many in one go. There's really no point having that many coming thru in one go as they will just end up blocking each other. We are already seeing this with the like of Davies/Walsh. Don't believe in the Chelsea farm method that we seem to be following more, and would prefer to see more local lads being brought thru than foreigners/players from other parts of the country. Also feel its bad for other teams to have their young talent poached so early (eg these latest deals for Bowler/that Newcastle kid).

Anyone know who the ones to watch are from this group?

This from a post I made when the list came out on 1st July :

"Not seen any , only caught brief clips of some , usually on the wrong end of goals going in against the u18s. Seven of them started games for the u18s last season , though some only played in the tail end games when results were poor. The seven were Gordon, Warren, John, Collins, Anderson, Sim and Adeydoyin. Michael Collins got the most league games , 14 starts, 3 sub and was the one who missed the penalty that knocked us out of the Youth Cup against PNE. He looks a big lad , hopefully not just his size which has enabled him to play early. Korede Adedoyin is next ,10 league starts, 1 sub , 3 goals so sounds like a promising forward."

That's interesting. I'm especially keen on the England players simply because we have former England players in Jags, Barry, Rooney and Baines and now it seems Keane + Pickford as well as hopefully some from the new wave. Think its exciting...

Was Feeney playing for England at left centre back, so Lewis Gibson would have been alongside him at left back?

if so, that bodes well...

Add in Fraser Hornby who had moved up to Scotlands U19s and doing well before his injury.

I think we should be looking at the players we have currently. But, if we have a chance to bring in the best English players in that age group then we should do so... we had those 5 u20s in the world cup step up then now if we could have another 5 replacing them at club and international level that's pretty exciting.
