Everton Youth Teams Thread

Just got back, entering game. Our youngsters certainly knew they had been in a game with a big physical Accrington side. Henen missed a 1 on 1 in the first minute when put clean through. Sure enough within 5 minutes, they were ahead renshaw (who didn't have the greatest of games) bringing down their forward for a pen. Pretty even till just before half time, when the impressive Robinson crossed for henen to supply a cool finish. Within a minute we were ahead. Donker worked tirelessly on the left, picking out Bowler (who showed some good touches) who couldn't miss.
In the second half we controlled the game, henen forcing their keeper into a great save. We then made widespread changes (8 in all) and struggled to maintain the momentum we had built up, before they scored against the run of the play from a set piece to make it 2-2. Another set piece proved our undoing shortly after and we were suddenly 3-2. Everton pressed for an equaliser and duly arrived, after good work from Mathis down the left found Bramall, up from full back centrally,to apply a crisp finish.
A good physical work out for the lads, on the longest grass I've seen on a pitch, which made crisp passing football difficult at times.
Gethin jones, Grant, Bowler and Robinson all had decent games, but I thought the best player on the pitch was Marty Foulds who really stood out and didn't put a foot wrong.
See foulds going out on loan mate ?

Nice one mate. Nice to see Matty Foulds doing well. As much as I like to see lads come through the academy its also good to see us get a return on purchased players.

Last time I saw him he looked quite thin, gangly almost. Has he beefed up a bit yet?

Sure has mate. Was going to say that in the OP. They were really a physical side, but Matty stood up to their physicality really well, but showed good awareness (interceptions) throughout the game and showed a decent passing range. He looked a totally different lad physically to the gangly lad we signed.

Good to hear.

There was a bloke next to me sctibbling away on a notepad. Thought he was a reporter. A bloke next to me asked him if he was and he turned out he was a scout from fleetwood. Naturally he was asked who impressed him, he said "a lot from Everton, they really are a cut above this level'. If I remember right, I think fleetwood have been taken over and have some decent money behind them for a league 1 club. There is certainly some rich pickings from that Everton side for championship and league 1 clubs.

If I'm an ambitious league 1 side or a championship side I would be calling Everton every day asking to loan our guys, or buy if they are for sale.

Sounds like Josh Bowler and Matty Foulds were excellent today.
Acctrington Stanley match thread names singles them out as looking nailed on for the Prem.
As I said earlier, Foulds was the stand out player. Bowler has got lovely quick feet, but physically stood up to the challenge well on a very heavy pitch. He linked up well with gethin jones well in ocassions and although you can't guarantee anything in football (both going onto play for the first team) you can see why Everton made quite a significant investment in both boys.

It's an interesting one that. I think we all thought henen was in his way out of the club last year, but now he has been made captain. Maybe a motivational tool by unsworth to get him motivated and to push him on. I'm sure @catcherintherye will now more about this and the reasons behind it.

I was there today also mate. Agree with you that Matty Foulds stood out today by a mile, followed by Bowler and Robinson. I was at Flint last week too and Henan looked great on the ball in both games but just needs to release it a little quicker at times i think. Decent performance by the lads against a physical side.

I thought Henan had left at the end of last season? Guess not.
Did all our foreign purchases play?

How is Foulds physically? Does he have the stature to play at CB in a 4 at prem level or is he another Holgate/Galloway type?
Holgate is stronger physically then most people give him credit for, but I think his lack of relative height is a barrier to him playing in a CB partnership in the premier league, but in a 3 he's fine.
Foulds has really filled out. He has the height and physicality to play as a partnership. Whether he has the talent, I guess time will tell.
