Everton Youth Teams Thread

It looks like pennington, holgate, davies, lookman, kenny, dowell and DCL are pretty much on the fringes or considered first team squad players. Whats your thougts on sambou, evans, walsh, connolly and williams are they good enough to push into the first team squad a la davies? Or is there someone not on the list who i have overlooked?
I would add Connolly to the " on the fringes " list , for his ability to cover LB and other positions. Walsh of course is well recognised as not being far away, Williams too. Of the others not on your list Beni Baningime and Morgan Feeney are probably too young for consideration this season but exciting prospects, with Beni more physically developed so who knows. Then of course we've got a raft of new arrivals in the U23s who are really for the future but will cause some excitement this season at U23s level .

He would be a great addition for us. I saw him a few times on tv playing left back for England U17s in the summer he looked very mature and a good attacking player. I remember that around about this time there was a brief headline about us being linked with Ben Gibson at Middlesbrough , Lewis Gibson will be a fine capture if we can get him.

I guess he would be for the u23s, even at 16/17?

One thing I love since Walsh joined is the signings of English youth internationals...Lookman who was already on the scene and DCL who of course joined the u20s in September last year.

Have you seen much of our new English winger, Josh Bowler? Or the other two we've been strongly linked with Brooks and Hirst.

Personally hope we seek to bring in the best available English players into the u23s before adding those such as Donkor and Mathis.

Maybe he signed a 1-year deal so we could get transfer fee for him instead of going down a messy tribunal.
Thing is mate they all have something about them. Probably not good enough for the prem (although you never know how much they can continue to develop as players) but good enough for a professional career. We have to offer them a contract to ensure that we can command a fee when/if they move elsewhere. These guys have decided to accept the contract as it at least offers them some security (and some income) until another club comes in for them. I think they probably will know that their future careers will not be with Everton as the academy team are pretty honest with them.

Wasn't Jones in the most recent Wales squad?. You'd think he wouldn't have much problem finding a club.

As I said mate we had to offer them a contract so that farce with doesn't happen again. I imagine they probably accepted the contract offered as it gives them an income and security of employment for another 12 months in case another club doesn't come in for them. I'm pretty sure we won't stand in their way when a club does come in and if we can't agree a fee we'll let it be set by tribunal.
A couple of posts I made earlier in the thread when Jones, Dyson and Duffus were offered new 1 year deals. We offer to protect ourselves and the lads sign it for security knowing we'll do all we can to find a club for them, either loan or permanent.

He made 112 appearances for Newcastle’s under-18’s side last season and after impressing, he made his breakthrough into the Magpies’ reserve side.

The 16-year-old’s form resulted in him being selected for England’s under-17’s side for this summer’s European Championships and he was an ever-present as the Young Lions were beaten on penalties in the final by Spain.

Swerve. The lad will be burnt out already.:)

That would be the plan, although he may have a couple of games at U18 first to settle him in. The likes of Kenny, Ledson, Feeney etc all had plenty of game time in the U23s once they became scholars, and plenty of U18 games whilst still schoolboys. Something our academy has always done to challenge the better players.

Personally I haven't seen anything at all of Josh Bowler, mainly because he has been overlooked by England so far. That, in itself, doesn't mean anything. Lookman and DCL didn't get any England caps until they were older than Bowler and they both have world championship medals now and are recognised first team squad members. You have to trust in Unsy's judgment of the player. He obviously wanted the lad and the club have backed him by paying a significant amount for him. He apparently impressed in the U23s first game last week.

Foulds is an interesting one for me. As a left footed, ball playing Centre half he's playing a premium position. That he's starting today for Unsy begs the question of how is he progressing and how highly is he rated by Everton...especially since he was signed by the Martinez regime.

I wonder if Dowell, Williams, Pennington and Connolly will remain with the first team squad through all of preseason?

I know they're only just back from Tanzania which would probably rule them out of today anyway, but it would be good if they got a full preseason to prove their worth.
