Everton Youth Teams Thread

Amazed Brewster is gone. From being a scoring machine I thought he was the best youth striker we had. Was surprised he didnt get a run with u23s then off he went. I'm sure there is a back story here. Saw him for the first time (on tv) when they toured South Africa. It was then he reminded me of Lukaku. He seemed bigger than the other boys and was quick as heck when he got going. Powerful striker. I am not that enthused about any of the older age striker boys.

With other stepping up or moving out surely a year in U23 would be appropriate? Nope.. clear back story.

..from what I've seen, I don't think he's big and strong. He was terrific in the Dallas Cup but that was a single competition tournament in his own age group and even then Beningame was the stand out. He struggled at non-league Stockport and Southport so it was always likely he wouldn't get a further contract. Sad to see any youngster being released, though.

Injuries at the wrong time can really set a player back. Delial was on fire as an U16 but then had a series of really bad injuries which meant he barely had a sustained period in the team for 18 months.
I've no doubt he'll find a lower league team to take him on and that he'll make a living out the game.

..that's a very good point.

If you don't impress at Southport you have no place in our U23 squad, sorry.

Byrne, Gray and Robinson offered new contracts in case anyone missed it.

Not really seen anything from that keeper.
No , Louis Gray hasn't been seen much at U23s level, im a bit surprised that Russell Griffiths has been let go and Gray kept. Griffiths got mixed reports on his initial loan this season but had some decent reports in the matches he played for Motherwell at the end of the season.
I guess the writing was on the wall for Brewster when we brought in DCL and Sambou at the start of the season .

He's faster and naturally better defensively mate, but large parts of his game remind me of him, Baines had a great footballing brain and awareness of everything around him though which hopefully Kenny has similar.
..you never really know until they step up but I agree that he won't be found wanting. I think the fans will take to him as well.

That's big praise and a big standard, but if he can be anything like Baines, he could be a favorite of the Bramley Moore faithful for many years

As in like 3 are better, or 3 are not from the academy?

If the former, break open the magic pie and tell me who you rate. If the latter, see also: grammar.

We paid 9-11m for Lookman, we didnt unearth him on the fields of Huyton, same with Holgate and DCL.

Talk of class of 92 is slightly premature.

TomTom has come in and done very well, Kenny looks a player, against bin lids, the rest, no idea and till they get a few games nobody knows.

Im very, very cynical with regards the yoots, we build them up year on year and it hardly ever turns out well.

Lets see what the lads play like, I think most people fall in love with the idea of fielding a squad full of lads born on Goodisons steps and its a lovely feeling watching local lads play for us, as I admitted im very cynical, but hopefully in a few years that viewpoint changes.

Truth is how many local lads play for other teams in the prem. Not many. You have to be pretty special to even get an opportunity. We've been here before.

This SA trip was years ago. He isn't that physically bigger anymore..ya it does seem he had run out of time.
