Found this article interesting although would have liked to have seen the data based on u20s as well as academy graduates as the first measures how willing you are to trust young players and the other is to a certain extent a reflection on the academy of the club you are at.
Martinez's stats seem slight outliers, appears it is quite hard as an academy graduate to get the first league appearance but once you are in then you are given time to prove yourself. On the other side of the coin, Mourinho has provided quite a few debuts....just rarely followed it up with regular football. Found Rodgers numbers interesting as well.
The data is probably badly skewed by a small data size for the younger managers tbf.

As I understand it the stas are based on premier league games alone and players the academy has produced. Also it should be noted what kind of academy the team is known for. Could Martinez numbers work against him because Wigan had a poor academy? Does someone like Stones/Galloway count as an academy grad? I would like to know how the numbers are compiled. is it only premier league games? Interesting though.

So don't think Stones, Galloway, Cleverley, Deulofeu, McCarthy , Moses etc would count towards Martinez's stats as none are Everton/Wigan grads yet all of them were heavily influenced in their early years by Roberto. Even Barkely got his debut under Moyes so not sure if he counts at all.
One of those articles I'd love to see the base data as in a way it raises more questions than it answers.

Garbutt was bought from Leeds so he might not count either.Exactly - so I would guess he has only given debuts then to Browning and Garbutt. Ledson, Pennington, Long, etc...don't count due to Euro's and Cups. Also teams at the top who are running away with the league or CL spots I think are afforded more opportunities to bring someone in for a debut than someone fighting to stay in the league as he was at Wigan. It will be interesting to monitor this at Everton going forward.

Sounds like ledson had a decent game, hopefully his recent break has done him good.
He didn't play for the U21s for a few weeks, I'd guess he was injured and therfore didn't get called up. I think this was his first game back.Anyone know why he didnt get picked for any of the national age groups?
