From where I was sat:

I’ll start with the visitors. Classic newly promoted English side. Archaic football, time wasting from the first second and lumping the ball to their tall players. The sooner they’re back with the Stoke, Sunderland and West Brom’s and stop poisoning the league the better.

Everton wise you could’ve been forgiven for thinking some Martinez-Allardyce hybrid had taken charge. Our tactic of passing round the defence before passing into midfield when the opposition had 11 men behind the ball then knocking it out to the wing then back to midfield and promptly losing it made for really poor watching.

We asked for subs and we got them. Unfortunately we took the only player who can cross a ball (Digne) off and the only player who can split a defence (Sigurdsson) off and that was the end of that.

Heroes and Villains:

Zouma- absolutely everywhere, unbelievably comfortable defending and on the ball, a real Rolls Royce and MotM by a country mile.

DCL- faster, stronger, jumpier. Looks like he’s really kicked on from last season, hard to get off the ball and great in the air. Should probably have been leading the line.

Digne- up and down that left wing defending and taking the ball forward as much as he could. The only player who looked capable of crossing the ball on the pitch today and looks decent with both feet.

Davies- if we’d bought him last season he’d have been sold this summer. Up against Mooy who looked several times the player of our Tom.

Coleman- his unpredictability used to be his best asset, now it looks to be his absolute downfall along with his crossing.

Holgate- poor in the air, turned too easy and shouldn’t be allowed to pass a ball.

All in all an absolutely dismal display. How many times can you say “at least we didn’t lose”? I know Huddersfield are always going to make it difficult but if you can’t do it at home against them who can you do it against.

Insulting to Huddersfield who got what they came for. Many times Everton have played the same way to dig out a point. Huddersfield are not yet established in this league and have done really well to get a second season. The point entirely is why we could not create enough to win at home.
Fact is, it is very early days and some of our signings have not kicked a ball for us as yet. We will have an idea about ten games in. Its a long road to sort out the shambles of last season.

Davies does the dirty work really well. Unfortunately him and DCL give the ball away a lot of the time, which may get better as they mature. Disappointing today but we had a lot of players unavailable and hopefully the new signings will make a big difference.

Coleman stepping back into the old plucky Everton mantra from the Moyes day’s I do wonder how long you can keep players like Coleman Baines around when they know nothing other than good old little
Everton when your trying to give the team a new identity and a new purpose
Baines was always much better than plucky Everton. We were lucky to keep him.

Terrible today.....

My analysis after 4 league games. The style of play under Silva is different and encouraging. However there are a couple of MAJOR problems. First the zonal marking. It does NOT work with the players we have, they look completely lost at set pieces, and it is killing us. However even more serious is the major lack of quality in the side. Yes we have injuries and are awaiting to see how the (very encouraging) new signings will help us, but I am sorry but Keane, Baines, Jagielka, Schneiderlin, Davies, DCL and Tosun are simply not good enough for Everton. And that’s a lot of players in very important positions.

With all the outgoings this summer still leaving us with this amount of poor quality just shows how staggeringly bad our side was. That’s why I’m willing to give Silva and Brands more time, but please, if there is one single Evertonian out there that does not agree with me that those players I have mentioned above need selling and replacing over the next two transfer windows, then I’ll be very surprised, and saddened.

Zouma and Digne were head and shoulders better than anyone else on the pitch today. Richarlison is a MAJOR talent and will be great, roll on seeing Gomes and Bernard. And then 6-8 more new in the next twelve months.

Now....the mentality at Everton.

Look, I hate doing this, I really do for a multitude of reasons, but I want to be as successful as them, I want to be as good as they are right now. I’m jealous, I’m an Evertonian and I crave a winning mentality. I’m talking about the [Poor language removed] across the park. They would have battered this parked Huddersfield bus today, probably 4 or 5 nil. And they would have EXPECTED nothing less. We should have gone out and battered them, stop them from passing the ball around and wasting time, GET INTO THEM! Disrupt their game plan. Other teams do the same to us because yes, you know what, we park the bleeding bus too! Why do WE, Evertonians, always make excuses....players sent off, poor opposition tactics, poor officiating, injuries, players are still young and will get better in time etc. FFS how much time do we all want......I’ve been waiting 31 years for us to see us play teams off the park again, play with passion, courage, skill and commitment, a desire (players, managers, board and fans) to win EVERY game and NO excuses for defeats and draws to teams we REALLY should be beating.

That last paragraph was triggered by a common excuses or explanantion our fans are throwing around at the moment in regard to Tom Davies. He's only 21 and needs to be given time some fans like to say. BS. He is crap, and that is plain to see. He has had time to prove himself in the Premier League - how much longer shall we give him...1 month, 1 year, 2-3 more season. NO. We can not wait that long - he needs to be replaced in the side NOW.

Like I said, Silva, and Brands, need time. A couple more transfer windows to replace the ridiculously non-PL standard players we have, and move this club forward. Im willing to give them that time, but I wont be sugar coating anything by believing 5-6 of that team that played today, are nothing but garbage, and not the level or type of players I want to see at this great club.

Frustrating to say the least. We were naive today and lacked the guile and intelligence to breakdown a defensive team. I agree that certain players aren’t good enough but giving away cheap goals isn’t going to help. However the 3 new signings who have played so far give me confidence that we are going in the right direction.

..Zouma is looking everything I wanted for us to acquire in the transfer window. More specifically, defenders with real athleticism, Rolls Royce engines, pace, power, height and powers of recovery. He performed well and had that audacious shot of his been on target in the first half he might well have caught the keeper out.

Huddersfield played spoiling tactics but it was up to us to break them down and we never looked capable. I spoke before the game about DCLs power in the air. He scored but he also got on the end of a couple of crosses where he should have done better. I get the impression he’s concentrating on simply winning the header rather than directing it goalwards. I don’t think he realises how powerful he is.

Awful and frustrating game. Zouma for me.

Agree with quite a lot of this - in particular the age and waiting for players to ‘come good’ - Richarlison came from a different continent to the PL in am average Watford team and ripped it up (granted he tailed off towards the end due to the amount of games. But the point is, he has the talent and it shows immediately.

We always say how our players need time. We’re desperate for them to succeed - even when it’s clear they’re not going to make it (see Klaassen, Sandro). Brands seems to have the ruthless streak we need in punting most of these lids.

We also do the ‘be boss with better players around him’. Who do they need? Messi bombing forward, Ramos at the back, Ronaldo banging them in. We need more players that stand out on their own accord and make a difference, not being dragged along by one star player. See Lebron James and Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA!

Can’t wait for ‘Everton, that’ to die a death and for us to actually push on. There are signs and we have players sidelined hopefully ready to come in and sort us out.

Hopefully Pickford with Mina and Zouma at the back will give us confidence and the zonal marking clicks - if he’s determined to play that way then he’s surely brought in players capable of it?

There is some amount of over reacting in here.....more than usual.

Silva is changing the style of football dramatically and it doesn’t happen overnight. After his presser the other day my optimism dropped simply because all our creativity which is needed in Silva’s game plan were either injured or suspended. He was left with the remnients of Koeman and Allarfyce yesterday bar Zouma and Digne who were the two best players in blue on the pitch imo.

We have been brutalised by injury so the international break comes at the right time.

Breathe...we will be better. Yesterday was a big blip. Btw credit to Huddersfield - they came with a game plan to suffocate us and it worked perfectly.

We’ll smash the hammers in two weeks....

It's going to take a lot more than 4 games to make any sort of judgement, if folk really think we should be fighting for a CL spot this season they're in cuckoo land. Patience and encouragement while he tries to build something out of the car crash that was last season. I heard Lookman take some boos and the abuse Davies gets is unreal. Some blues are as bad as the RS.
