That performance was the one we needed but not the one we deserved. We needed to keep a semblance of momentum so setting up to not lose would be more beneficial in the long run

Didn't he go off injured against united, and injured himself against stoke but carried on playing, well penalties!

I think he went off against united with about two minutes to go (i think). I think you're right about the stoke game, i remember hirm struggling from early in the game.

I for one had a great day yesterday. Quality atmosphere in the pub beforehand, even had a german fella take a photo of all of us with our empties (new to me that one but whatever!)

Headed over to the usual Gwladys Street spec and the place was rocking. On the pitch, I may get Gif'd for saying it but I was actually really happy with our performance. For the most part we looked pretty solid and organised, which we had to be. The next steps are addressing the problems we have putting together a decent attacking threat.

As previously said. I'd of brought Barks and Lennon on earlier, but that's about as much as I can be displeased with. 4 points from the last two.

One thing that has annoyed me this season is that our forward players cannot control a pass, their first touch is always poor - either losing the ball or taking that extra touch which kills all the momentum.

Bang on

Slate Martinez all we want but he can not be blamed for seasoned pro's not being able to control the ball and pass it to feet

His long passing is good when given time but there where times today that teammates where afraid to pass it to him because if someone is close he almost always gets caught. I think Martinez has to bite the bullet with this one and try and get him to join a MLS team in the summer. He was fantastic for us last season but his time has sadly passed. If Rodgers had the balls to move on Slippy we should Gaz Baz. There's nothing unseen that he does, he is what he is.

.....I wonder if he suffers most from the lack of an Osman or Pienaar. Those two alway seem available to him for a quick short pass and both have the ability to accept delivery in the tightest of areas. Just a thought.

One thing that is blatantly obvious this season is that confidence and passing go hand in hand

I think confidence in football plays a massive part in everything they do, When its low nothing seems to come off and players don't want the ball

Keep saying it over and over, We do not have good technical footballers in the attacking positions, Not one of them is the type who can play a neat through ball or play a quick one two at pace

Martinez insists on a methodical passing style and he really needs to sign players who are comfortable playing that way

........huge plus having MCCarthy and Stones back, can't understand how neither got Sky MoM yesterday. I was disappointed with Lukaku in that I wanted him to impose himself more, the service was poor but he had a couple of opportunities to use his pace and power but didn't. Like others, I wouldn't have been too concerned had Naismith gone off at half-time but RM clearly delighted with the shift he was putting in.

I'm a bit concerned about Baines, knee injuries can be long term. Hope not.

I was act
I'm not a fan of barkleys all action walking style, and when he get's 5 minutes at the end of a derby game and fans a shouting at him to run as he watches opponents, making his team mates (lukaku) run 20yds past him to try and close the player down while he just stands watching. if that's rubbish fine, I'm sure you have been impressed with his bench warming recently.
I was calling for him to be dropped the game before so I'm aware of his issue with workrate but this game wasn't one.

I thought we effectively played with 9 men yesterday. Naismith and Barry were shocking. Not an ounce of creativity between the pair of them. Barkley and Lennon should have been on a lot earlier.

Liverpool had one dominated spell early in the second half when they controlled the game. But beside that they were there for the taking.

Martinez got the big formation decision right in going for 433. He also - as picked up on by the Sky biffs - targeted the right Liverpool player in Sakho for us to put all our eggs in that basket and isolate and attack him.

Imagine Lukaku with Coutinho playing in behind him!

I feel sorry for Rom. Feeding off scraps all season.
