Can has looked brilliant all season, we needed to test him with a speedy winger not lukaku

I thought Martinez switched Lennon over there at one point to do exactly that. But Sakho was such an obvious pudding to work on it wasn't surprising we left Can alone.

In the cold light of day this morning, I'm pretty happy about that game. Scrappy as hell, but we turned up, gave em a game. Either team could have won that. Positives for me - Robles, Stones, Jags, Coleman, Besic, McCarthy, Lennon had good games and all looked up for it.

Well in lads. Bring on Chelsea
Don't forget Oviedo. I honestly think he's a better defender than Baines.

A couple of positives for me:

The first Derby in God knows how long that we actually won the midfield battle, Besic and McCarthy were excellent, even if they had to carry Barry all game.

Lennon looked decent, and exactly what we need, reminded me of Pienaar with pace. When he came on we finally saw the Coleman of last year too, what a difference a proper winger makes.

Chelsea away is pretty much a bonus match, hopefully Martinez will try Ross as 10 and kev & Lennon each side.

The terrible call I remember , which is a good thing I guess, was an advantage played when the ball end up about 40 yds toward our goal and would have given a decent position for a set piece. But yeah could have been much much worse

Tbh the players on both sides were that crap that they didn't given him the chance to make a dodgy call lol still give credit when it's deserved

That last paragraph mate is spot on. Absolutely nothing to lose. Time to give Barry a break and Naismith as they've both been tripe and time to put Ross back in after a stint on the bench and get some natural width in Lennon and Mirallas and go for a win. Don't think we will keep Chelsea out all game if we set up like we did yesterday. Bloody wait all week, buzzing about the derby and then it becomes an absolute boring non event lol

I was act
I was calling for him to be dropped the game before so I'm aware of his issue with workrate but this game wasn't one.

hard to understand how a young player that has it all can't add a bit of work rate to his game which would make an instant starter for us, of all the footballing skills surely work rate is the easiest to master. Maybe a crisis of confidence but Martinez seems to be handling him right. maybe the lad can start on Wednesday now james is back to do some running in cm.

Can had a good game. He needed to be more combative with him. I think his strength caught Lukaku by surprise. But Naismith needed to be closer to Rom all game, and he was shockingly bad in pairing up with Lukaku.

....understand what you mean about Naismith, Barkley definitely linked better from a forward perspective. Naismith, though, was tireless in his defensive duties so I suppose it was a matter of one strength or the other.

If nothing else, this match well and truly confirmed that OK Computer is indeed better than The Bends.
Nope. If anything it only reaffirmed that the Bends is an infinitely better masterpiece than o.k laptop and that's the last we will hear of it please thank you. This derby will forever be known as the Radiohead appreciation society derby. If only Thom and the gang knew our respect for them down at L4

....it was clearly a tactic to pressure Sakho from the start, he does look vulnerable. Can is surely a midfielder, can see him playing more of that role in the future. It was a plus when Lucas went off, I think he's important for them but we never really took advantage and rarely threatened.

Oh for an Inchy Heath yesterday,Sakho is an accident waiting to happen in possession,Inchy would have buzzed around him like a buzz, buzzy thing and we would have profited of that I'm sure.
