Naismith had a good game, pity Mirallas didn't pass him at 40 min, when he was running forward with no defenders around him. Also unfortunate in 50 min when Jelavic tried to flick the ball, instead of letting it go to Naismith. Sometimes it seems like his team mates doesn't trust his abilities.

Heitinga was average, not bad. Doesn't have offensive passes.
Distin is getting quicker every year:-)
Coleman terrorised their left back early on, but as the game settled, he had to track back often.
Howard want to keep his place and had a cracking game.

A good workout for the lads, hopefully they learned a bit from their opponents about passing accuracy and movement t

I posted this at HT:

I don't think that was bad at all! Plenty of positives:

1. Should've had a pen (Mirallas inside the box)
2. Distin's goal should've stood
3. We hit the post
4. Their only chances are coming from counter attacks using the pace of the second best player in the World; not something we'll have to face on a weekly basis!
5. We've retained possession well
6. Naismith looks like a different player
7. Ozil's goal looked offside
8. We're matching Real Madrid and are unlucky to be behind

Lets get behind them second half and remain positive :)

-----------------------------------------

Then of course the second half surely gave us even more reasons to be positive:

1. We scored a cracking goal
2. Jelavic looks like he may have rediscovered his form
3. Barkley came on and didn't lookout of place against a team of Madrid's quality
4. Naismith continued to have a very good game!
5. We didn't concede a goal
6. The tiny glimpse of Deuelofeu shows us what we've got to look forward to
7. Oviedo continues to progress
8. We didn't sit back, but rather attacked them and played some delightful football in the process

Overall, a cracking night and well worth staying up til silly o'clock and paying the £4 :)

Good game, against one of the top teams in the world..

think most of the first half was terrible i dont like the way we keep hold of it too long
in our own half, but it was against Madrid, early on it looked like we would be smashed about
6-0 terrible giving the ball away alot of times in the match too in good ereas
only coleman stood out to me but as the game got on more got in to it,

really did struggle with ronaldo getting skinned all the time too fast/tricky for us
ref made two terrible decisions, one allowing there goal also, nice to see the young lads getting
a game against a top team too and none of them really put a foot wrong barkley looks like he's used to that
every week the way he played no nerves atall, naisy stood out for me too think he really has improved
works hard defensively i think tis cos hes that bad when he plays good he stands out but he did play good,

id like to see subs like that in league games, felli off? he didnt do much good header from the corner i think
having gibbo in the middle with ross would suit with felli behind or infront, we were lacking that final pass
but with them too they can play it in the air and the floor with decent balls/ open up defenses

kone didnt do much but he was on when we were getting dominated and not much going forward,
jelly scores again , mirallas quiet early as most but some nice dribbilin / skills/ howard good saves
he meant that kick it was pure skill lid..

LOVE COLEMAN THO. the end of the story

I'm not saying its absurd mate tbh. On the dribbling front I think they arent all that different right now, in terms of end product, Johnson has a better dig on him, but his crossing can leave a bit to be desired. I think all in all, they are of a similar standard, with Coleman starting to creep ahead as he gets a bit older.

Yeah I know you aren't mate, but you're in the minority. Coleman could eventually overtake him as he's still behind technically in the sense that he spent his youth in a 2-bit youth set up as opposed to a premier league academy.

What I can't accept though mate is people on here calling me a kopite when I've used the forum for the best part of 5 years. If you think I'm way wide of the mark that's one thing, but to start throwing those kind of shouts around when I've been more involved in Everton than the majority of those throwing these shouts out will ever be is out of order, IMO.

I think Right Back would be your best position..

right back on Rawk

Want to leave it here now because it's off topic and not fair on everybody else, but if youu haven't directly said it you've implied that I support Liverpool. I've been using this place longer than you mate, and if you had a look through my history on the site before you start throwing comments like that around you'd see it's not the case. Having a different opinion to the majority (or at least the majority who have replied) does not, and never will. make me any less of an Everton fan than you lad, so cut that one right out.

Brilliant performance. If we had ANY luck then we could've scored 3 or 4 and we would have been raving about how well we played. Some of the points I gathered from the match:

  • Jelavic is back, dangerous every time the ball came to him
  • Naismith starting to show that he could be a great squad player for us
  • Barkley showing there's no reason Osman should play ahead of him
  • Howard on fire, he didn't have the best of seasons last year but he looks to be enjoying his football as well
  • Coleman and Baines did their fair bit of terrorising, not sure why people are so worried about Baines just because he didn't completely destroy two of the best squads on this planet (especially last night, a team that played their first 11)
  • Mirallas wasn't completely on point last night to be fair, but glimses showed that he'll have a great season. Plus, there was some quality link up play between him and Fellaini which I look forward to seeing more of
  • The only worry of last night was the high line. That was tactical suicide against THE BEST team in the world for beating offside traps (although personally I felt as if it was intentional by Martinez to see how it panned out)
  • I thought Fellaini played much better last night too, no silly passing mistakes or letting players slip past him - tidy performance from the big man

There's no doubt that when Johnson was playing for Portsmouth a few years ago he was absolutely brilliant.

However Coleman is better than Johnson, and has been for a while.

His distribution is excellent, his movement on the right wing and on the edge of the box is some of the best I've seen from a RB/RWB.

But most of all, last year, his defending came on leap's and bounds, clearly looks at lot physically stronger.

Is overall game surpasses Johnson.

Just watching the goals back. Anyone else find the commentator really annoying the way he kept calling Ronaldo, Ronoldo? When he scored as well he said: "and Cristiano Ronoldo, all too inevitably gives Everton the lead". How can you even mess your words up there?
