Distin casually bumming Mirallas in the pre-match picture there. Not sure who I envy more.

I envy Felli who is watching the show and possibly going to slop out

My thoughts.

Howard had a good game, Baines was ok but non-existent in an attacking sense.

Jagielka and Distin were awful, right now to me out looks like this new system isn't suited to them as they're simply not good enough on the ball. Lost count the amount of times they played it directly to Madrid. Very concerning tbh. Heitinga was all too aware we were in LA and continuously tried to pull off Hollywood passes which rarely came off.

Coleman was excellent right from the off. I bet Moyes is gutted they have Rafael and signed that new lad as Coleman is miles better than both. If Glen Johnson is worth 20m then our Seamus is worth 220m.

Mirallas was great and should have had a penalty, Osman was predictably **** and needs booting out of the starting XI,and Fellaini was quiet and the game largely passed him by.

Naismith was decent and got himself a good assist - but the prospect of both him and Osman in the first team at the same time scares me to death.

Kone was rubbish, and I couldn't be less of a fan of his. Roberto hopefully knows a lot more going off his "the complete striker" bollocks...

Referee was useless and cost us the game, but if we play in defence in the premier league like we did last night we'll get bummed all over the park by the better teams n

A few observations.
We played a 4-1-4-1, not a flat back three like against Juve.
Naismith and mirallas were superb, nais edging motm for me.
Osman had a very good game and is going to thrive under Martinez.
We were unlucky with decisions, pen and disallowed goal.
Still lack top class striker which would make the difference. Ours all have deficiencies.
Overall good runout and performance.

Agree with everything apart from that, I thought Osman looked out of his depth all game, getting the ball took off of him and passing to Madrid players more often than his own, we looked a more composed and better side when both Gibbo and Barkely came on IMO!.

Did think Jelavic looked more of a threat than Kone, who first half was very isolated.

All in all I thought it was a good run out and in parts we looked good and as an whole, not out of are depth!.

We couldn't handle Real's pace, movement and passing ability first half and we must remember we won't come up against that class every week, or if at all IMO in the prem cos with the likes of Modric, Ozil, Isco and Ronaldo, they were different class on the counter!.

Just watched it now on Everton tv. We were shockingly unlucky in the first half to be fair, i think the ref got a tad overwhelmed by the whole Real Madrid brand thing. The ref missed a very possible pen, disallowed a perfectly ok goal (hard to see for what reason it could possibly be cancelled) and both of their goals looked like they had more than a possibility of offside. Happy with the performance, when Real Madrid needs the refs assistance to beat you, you've got to be

For the past decade, our manager has treated the strikers as hold-up men and defence stretchers, with goals coming from midfielders joining the attack. Any goals the strikers managed to get were in spite of this system.

None of us know how any of our strikers will fair playing consistently in a system designed to allow them to act as the primary goal scorers.

Granted, this is a little premature to say, but early indications are that Jelavic is going to benefit from the change in style.

.....not sure Jelavic might improve. There was a moment in the 2nd half when Mirallas (I think) slid him in betweem 2 defenders. A top player would use pace and power to get in on goal but the centre backs had him in their pocket and I think he ended up trodding on the ball. Took his goal well, but it would be great if we had somebody who can cause havoc and score goals from nothing.

I don't know anyone who fits that description that we could afford.

Was slightly drunk when I watched the game last night but if my memory serves me correctly:

We had a goal harshly disallowed.
We should have had a penalty.
Both of their goals were offside.

So we effectively deserved to win 3-0!

That about right??!

If their goals were offside, it was by inches. I would have given them the benefit of the doubt as a ref, and if it was us probably claimed they were clearly onside. Ronaldo's run was timed to perfection.

As you will probably know, I missed the game (again!) but, judging by the comments I've read here, the match officials have assured that zillions of Hispanic Americans will tune in for the final. And what's this? An American team gets to play them? Well that's worked out well then :dodgy:

Not that American TV companies are worried about viewing figures of course. Oh no.

I think I may becoming a cynic in my old age

I think with the money in the game we'd be foolish to think this doesn't get attempted at all levels. If we were to ever finish 4th we'd have to do it resoundingly like last time, if it went to the last day and its us or Liverpool or arsenal, the officials would make it difficult for us.

Heitinga starts, we lose. Cant wait until that chump gets out of my Club.
Also, to move FORWARD, Osman needs to be dropped completely, maybe the odd appearance from the bench, but ill be very, very disappointed if he STARTS the majority of our games next season.

He will play a lot, he 'gets' the club, passion in the dressing room true blue etc. I've not been a fan for a while but he'll be a regular for at least 2 more seasons

Im disappointed then mate. Theres a 19yr old lad, think we've all heard of him, Ross Barkley who is at the Club, ready and raring to tear teams apart, while this chump sits off in midfield and lets other glide past him with ease.

This has to stop. Seamus is class and certainly one of the best right backs in the league, but he's not on Johnson's level in terms of going forwards or technical ability. Tracking back maybe, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.
