Look at howards position and at the height the ball has gone in the net. Now picture him stood up. What happens? It hits him in the stomach, I'm not having it, he should save it I dont care how hard he hits it, its dreadful technique by Howard.

I like to see you do better...:P

example, not quite identical, but cahills effort shortly after the goal, almunia just puts his chest behind it and worries about his hands later. Goalkeeping is simple

Suppose I'm just looking for someone to blame, but he is suspect. We can do better.

On the flip side.

Everton played well, lapses in concentration on a number of occasions, mainly when trying to see it out. Neville was solid again, Baines is playing out of his skin and think him and the centre halves should all be first choice forEngland, their knowledge of each others games would be more valuable than the individual abilities of rio and terry

First chance I've had to post my thoughts tonight, I've just about regained my composure.

Haven't read the thread, so if things seem moot by now, bear with me.

Inevitably this is going to be compared to the Aston Villa game, but the feeling I had at the end of both games was totally different. Whereas against Villa I was just gutted and felt like what we deserved had been taken away from us, tonight there was nothing but anger. And I haven't felt that angry at Everton for a long time. We threw it away.

To work so hard for 92 minutes, to fight for every ball and all that, and then Pienaar to give possession away so needlessly, pointlessly, carelessly, when he could've carried the thing an extra 20 yards and kept it in their half, I completely lost it. For Howard to get beat at his near post, again, because he chooses to fall over when he saves, criminal. This game just left a horrible taste in the mouth.

It was an absolute nothing point. We should've moved closer to Arsenal, and instead have ended the week a further 2 points behind Villa, United and Chelsea, and no closer to anyone else above us. And to top it all off, Cahill is injured aswell (hopefully not serious.)

Yes I know it could've been worse, and we've been playing so well without strikers, but frankly all that means nothing if you can't see your games out. It doesn't matter how well we play with 6 midfielders if we don't win games we should win.

I can't see myself ever feeling comfortable with a 1 goal lead (or a draw) again for a long long time, so I know the defence won't feel comfortable either. I see more last minute goals to come.

So yeah, not a nice day at all. And I'm not usually one to whinge, had to break that streak some time.

Anger is coarsing through my veins too mate, come over to my good stuff thread and feel all warm inside about the prospect of a rewarding season ahead. After all it is a point against one of the sky 4, regardless of the circumstances, I'm sure it would have been acceptable beforehand. (y)

...and Howard is getting some blame for the Van Persie rocket?

Are you kidding me?

Yes, he had a clanger against Gerrard last week but when Van Persie scored, Howard was about 6th on my "list of people to blame" after we coughed up the lead.

I'm guessing Arsenal supporters are blaming Almunia for Cahill's goal then?

Yeah, I know what you mean.... we looked pretty good with possession all night until the extra time. Seems to me there was a bit of panic. That was surprising.

Okay, lot of talk blaming peanuts and he should have been more aware to lose time. However it is the nature of forwards and midfielders to lose possession from tackles or bad passes. This means the opposition can set up an attack. In such instances that is why you have a back four to stop them scoring. In this case on of the back four had not got back and so it was a back 3. But when this happens the defence is weakened and exposed as lats night. Howard IMO was spreading himself to make it harder for VP but it was a belter of a shot. Perhaps Howard should have run at him to put him off and I think that is a possibility, sometimes he does seem to be rooted. The VP goal came from damn near the identical position of gerrard's goal on our right flank. Perhaps this is not Howard's favoured side. BUt you have to ask where was our right back. If Hibbert had been in position he may well have been able to stop VP. Sometimes I do think Hibbert can be slow in getting back, does not seem to have the pace to sprint back unlike Baines IMO.
