European super league and impact on Everton.

Or we could get relegated and become a yo-yo club......every second season we would be in the thick of the promotion race with the likes of Wolves, Barcodes, Baggies, Burnley etc.

We would be "Champions" on a pretty regulation basis.

And there would be lots of exciting Play Off semi finals and trips to Wembley for the "richest game in the world" a.k.a the Play Off Final.

They even give a "trophy" out for that achievement these days.....even if the winners have finished 6th in the regular season.

No thanks.....I will stick with the Wee 14 and never stop hoping.....or believing....that EFC will again rise to the top in this country ;)
I think you misunderstand how it would work

The leagues would be set. There would be no promotion up to the European league a bit like minor and major leagues here in the US.

The money men don't want that kind of uncertainty.

The European Super League would kill so much of what's made football popular and I really hope that the greed that has infested the game never gets to that point. I'd rather they took up that ridiculous rule where United and Milan were going to be allowed in the Champions League despite being terrible than have a super league.

No need, theres already a Euro league when you consider the CL,Id be more worried about premier league clubs negotiating their own TV rights than a breakaway league

I would boot utd out of our league if that happened.

It's not like they haven't got enough of a competitive advantage. It would make a mockery of the whole league.

Hey.. Why don't we purposely get ourselves relegated? We'd win more games down there. We may even be champions of... er ... well.. look we'd just be champions and that would be boss ok!

I'd prefer it to wrecking the league system that has made football the most popular sport world wide for 100 years before allowing for 20 owners to create a money factory at the games expense

As much as winning the league would be considered a massive achievement for any club.

would it not sour the feeling if you know the real competition aren't even in the league anymore? Like winning because of a points deduction from 15 points behind, or playing 5 more games than your competitor.

I just mean what's a league win if you aren't competing to be the best English team?

How is giving the richest club a guarantee of CL money thereby allowing them to access even more credit at lower rates than everyone else not wrecking the league.

This is the best argument against it but....

The alternative is being a team that now effectively just make up the numbers.

I know this may sound silly but I wouldn't mind if this happens.

Its clear by now unless we hit the oil sugar daddy lottery we will never be able to compete with the top 4/6.

The CL pretty much guarantees this.

So I say let them bugger off. I would prefer to watch us compete for trophies again rather than be best of the rest.

Thoughts?

Well no because the trophies we compete for will be seen as worthless to the ones they compete for

But as Leicester have recently proven it is possible to win the league. No matter how difficult it may be and how unfair the competition maybe, if you win more points than anyone else you win the league. Easier said than done sure but it is possible.

So although we may be best of the rest normally, the path isn't locked out for us completely unless we continue to let it. All it would take is champions league football to get us there. Finish 4th one year, knocked out of the group stage, win the Europa to go back in and all of a sudden the landscape changes with the right people in charge. Attract better players, improve ourselves etc

Granted we have sabotaged every single chance we had previously of achieving this but again it is possible.
