Europe Thread 25/26

Last time we made the Champions League, Moyes wasted every penny we spent and set us back years. We were laughed out of two European comps and struggled in the league.
It was flabbergasting some of that recruitment, imagine finising 4th and the first player you think to bring in is Simon Davies who was utter woeful even before he joined us.

Anyone know what the deal is if Villa finish top 5 and win the Europa? I assume it wouldn’t make any difference and they’d just take one of the five spaces anyway. 6th being Europa, 7th being conference?

…..such a shame we’ve got a long break and can’t keep the momentum going. Lots of players will be missing on international duty but outside of that I hope the FF routine continues and they don’t take the players away.

On the plus side, great chance to get Branthwaite completely up to speed to give him the best possible chance of being available for the last 7 games.

Im guessing if this question has been asked/answered quickly ive just missed it...
But what happens if both Roma and ourselves qualify for the Conference?
If TFG haven't done the necessary one team doesn't get in it ?

apparently they have been taken the necessary steps to show we are two separate companies and TFG are confident we would meet the requirements. they will have learned a lot from what happened at Palace last year.

That is correct, but some journos have been making noises that we've done what we needed to.

The scenario is, as things stand, actually quite plausible

I believe the rules are pretty much black and white now (luckily).

1. Villa finish in CL places and win EL, no change
2. Villa finish outside CL places, Win EL, but finish in European places, then one less team in EL/ECL
3. Villa finish outside europeanplaces and win Europa, extra slot allowed, doesn't impact those in top 5.

Also applies if Forest & Palace win their comps. If liverpool completely fall apart and win CL, then potentially 11 sides in Europe next season.

….i suppose we need to keep an eye on this;

That last Champions League spot is wide open for us to go and grab.

Liverpool and Chelsea are all over the place, momentum behind us and a lot winnable fixtures coming up

Massive opportunity for us IMO, we would overachieve but the chance is there.

Still think this will be very difficult based on the goal difference, the home/away split, and the fact that Liverpool’s home form is still good even when they’re absolutely terrible they don’t lose many at Anfield.

We’d probably be looking for them to completely de-rail rather than anything we do. We’d probably need them to hit relegations type form e.g a point per game for 7 games, and then we’d need to be in CL form e.g 2ppg to make it.
