Those rules don't contradict each other. The CL rule accounts for the EL rule.

Extra spot for 4th in league (+1), minus Utds League Cup spot (-1) = "number of places to which it is entitled in the UEFA Europa League does not change."

There is no plus one, you're still just thinking of Leicester & forgetting united.

3.09 C does not apply the first sentence makes that incredibly obvious as united are qualifying for the europa through domestic comps

And just to make it obvious once agin here are the rules which do apply.

I know 3.09c doesn't apply in this case. But it defines the case where 9 teams could be in Europe. Once people are happy that 9 is the maximum. It's easier to explain the case of 8 teams. If someone thinks 7 is limit, it's harder to convince them upwards to 8.

Do you agree 9 was theoretically possible at the beginning of the season?

My argument wasn't that there isn't a 5+2 rule, rather it does not apply to LCFC as they did not have a EL spot to forfeit. The 5+2 rule would apply for Utd & EL due to the league cup.
