he does not humiliate me - pete as you know he argues black is white at least I got him to watch the Daily politics to win one argument;)

Tbf we've all done that on here. He's young, so he knows everything, he'll get older and maybe realise that he doesn't.......let it go.....

To change the topic slightly, those who (like me) are among the 1.3 million of Brits living and working in the EU might like to keep an eye on the Euro MP Charles Goerens, who is trying to raise support for an EU associate membership for those who have been disenfranchised by their own country and had their rights removed without representation.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...could-guarantee-rights-in-europe-after-brexit

I've had a couple of emails back from his staff, who say he has been staggered by the response and support he has received for his proposal.

I don't see that happening, not in the current climate. Hard for the public opinion in some countries also. I wouldn't worry if I were you though; If you perform some sort of useful function you'll get a visa. Can't you just file for citizenship in the nation you're working in, or don't you qualify under the conditions?

From what I understand mate, May is on record as saying that she is happy for EU citizens currently living and working in the UK to continue doing so without any new paperwork etc, provided EU countries extend the same courtesies to our citizens living and working over there. Not sure whether those plans involved duel citizenship but don't see why not if both sides are agreeable.

It's not that Pete, is it? I've just pointed to things that have been pedalled as fact and asked for some evidence, and not just from Joey.

As I'm now on ignore, I think I can point out that Joey has posted a number of things that are unsubstantiated.

Now I DO know, that in order to have some sort of debate, you've got to evidence your argument.

If he had said x and I had said 'can you back up x?' and he had, I'd have had to concede that his point was valid.

No, it's not my argument against Brexit at all. It seems a long time ago now, but if I recall our original discussion was around the notion that whatever May and her government end up with will be fine because it was voted for by a majority of those who voted. I'm simply saying that this is unlikely to be the case. No more, no less. The very nature of the referendum didn't allow for any more nuance than that, which is perhaps why these things are setup to be advisory.
We do seem to be going around in circles mate. Reckon we should ban referendums in future. They cause too much trouble.;)

Yes, I would qualify straight away for citizenship as I speak the language and will have an almost fully-paid pension here by the time I retire. But although I love living here (obviously) I would have to give up my British citizenship, which would potentially cause problems with family, partner, etc. Problematic either way... (which is why it is infuriating we didn't get to vote and Commonwealth residents in UK, for example, did).

Added: Before Austria was in the EU, you could live and work here but you had to apply for permission at the local government level and were granted a limited 'permission to stay' if successful (bit like Swiss but not as hard).

I don't think there will be any problem with anyone living or currently working throughout Europe. A deal will be done and I don't think anyone wants this particular aspect to be an issue......

You may be saying that in jest, but i would agree that all they seem to do is breed animosity and hatred.

Normally a referendum gets acted on reasonably quickly. It's the idea that the referendum result can be overturned or sabotaged that causes ill feeling. We should get a move on.......
