But then Trump is a very strong critic of the EU and is likely to scrap and renegotiate their trade deal. So where does that leave the EU.

Trump has a reasonable amount of business interests in the UK too. And we all know what politicians are like with a vested interest at play...

That's actually an interesting point, as surely he would need to do something with his business interests so that he has no control or influence over them for the duration of his term in office. There are massive potential conflicts of interest there that you would imagine would need to be dealt with.

It's not just him. Every single politician in any relatively high ranking position has vested interests all over the show. They are as crooked a group as you'll ever come across.

There's no legal requirement in the US to put business assets into a blind trust whilst President. However all Presidents since Lyndon Johnson have done so with the exception of Obama who has no business assets.

Trump has suggested family members will continue to run his business.

Not really the same is it? Does make for a slightly uneasy connection, especially as so much of his business empire rests upon the Trump brand name.

It was interesting to contrast the responses from May and Merkel yesterday. Merkel essentially says that Germany is happy to work with America providing Trump retains basic decency towards people of whatever race, colour or creed. May nothing like as statesman like.

No she's just over in India paving the way for major business deals also probably revealing her visa card immigration style away from free movement making room for real skilled immigration and student visas ie if they come over and are successful great if not they return in a certain timescale most students always do this anyway - The EU system of free movement has hindered us from taking in high skilled people this country needs as I have stated because of a massive skill shortage this country will always need CONTROLLED immigration!
Its almost as if to control immigration is a dirty word what's wrong in allowing only the people into this country we need and not a free for all even if they have no jobs to come to?
That will be the difference of an independent UK and yes of course the people who have settled her can stay as they came under the past EU rules!
I see demonstrations against the Trump vote on a bigger scale then the Bob Geldolf and other marches over here under the Remoaners after the result!
I am glad we now have a statesperson like leader in May at least she is holding firm on the Brexit vote Corbyn has changed his mind about three times to my knowledge !

Do you know the nationality of those deported from the UK in the largest number Joe? To give you a clue, it's those folks May is trying to schmooze at the moment (and for whom we already have control over immigration). I'm impressed by your dogged belief that the government have any clue about managing immigration though.

I'd also like to extend my thanks for responding to a completely different point to the one I made. Standards are at least being maintained :D

May is a better salesperson atm in the UK government, is it she is not rolling over - Over Brexit that is upsetting you Bruce?
I did answer your question Bruce as you have been critical of Mays trip to India in past post she is paving the way for brexit ie we trade tariff free all over the world with richer countries that are in the EU!
That is statesman like getting on with the job the british people wanted voted for her to do after the vote!
She was chosen, as the former PM got out as he had no Brexit plan in place!

Take a look at document cm9216 - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...s_for_withdrawing_from_the_EU_print_ready.pdf - which is a policy paper published by the Government on the process for withdrawing from the EU. This paper was presented to Parliament back in February.

Among other things it states that the result of the referendum would be final and that the Government would be expected to begin the process of leaving straight away. It gives the process of leaving as invoking Article 50 as being the only legal way to leave the EU, as it would breach EU and international law to merely repudiate the relevant domestic laws that enact EU laws.

Parliament does not have a mandate to block invoking Article 50. Let's get on with it. Invoke it this week, with a vote (rubber stamp) if Parliament insist. Then we can get on and Leave

Total value of global exports to India 2015 £30 billion

Total value of global exports to EU 2015 £2.2 trillion

Total value of UK exports to EU 2015 £221 billion
We do not export much to the EU the import figure from the EU is far greater, Nissan are not part of the EU so our car industry, the fact is the EU is depending on our car manufacturers and do not forget we dont make cars we just assemble them that, and other things can change when we become an independant country!
The EU is not in good shape just admit it we are 8.5 billion net down the drain every year, and they are putting the membership up again what a rubbish club to be in better out imo!

I am saying we should focus on selling more to the EU than fanciful deals elsewhere which will take years to achieve and have less value than our existing relationships.

We are leaving the EU if the agree to let us have access without ties or even tariffs then fine as when we put trariffs on them we will be well in pocket as I stated they export more goods to us!
no agreement to keep any polictical union fine that's what OUT means!

You keep saying they export more to us, but that's exactly my point, we should focus on selling more to them to narrow the gap and then create a surplus, rather than waste time and money leaving the single market and chasing India which has a tiny export market in comparison
