‘Brexit will NOT disrupt UK trade’ World Trade Organisation boss plays down fears

THE chief of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Roberto Azevedo, has said that trade between UK and EU member states will continue during Britain’s ‘smooth’ divorce with the European Union.

The WTO chief has vowed to give the UK a hand for a smooth transition

Mr Azevedo has said that the Brexit vote was not “anti-trade” and gave reassuring words that the UK’s transition out of the EU would be “fast and smooth”.

The WTO leader said: “I will be working hard - I will work very intensely to ensure that this transition is fast and is smooth.

“The less turbulence the better. The global economy today is not in the best shape for us to be introducing turbulence.”
I heard that on LBC radio this am did not want to gloat on here like , but a good point made - I cannot see how the Brexit team can not prepare to go into negotiations after article 50 is signed without having a few rabbits to make the EU see sense that the divorce of the UK being out of the EU will not hurt them to hard, and common sense will win the day with both sides agreeing on trade and free movement in our favour as she stated, May made Corbyn look amateurish today as he asked the wrong questions on Brexit imo!
not once did he bring up the revelations of her speech pre brexit to the Lehman brothers - open goal missed again by Jezzalol

Tbf, quoting a Guardian story about a leaked tape from a Goldman Sachs event would have just been batted away. I think he was right to just avoid it.......

What Roberto Azevedo is worried about is world trade, not just Brexit but also protectionism because the global economy is 'not in the best of shape'

Brexit won't cause trade 'disruption' WTO boss

What he says about WTO, Brexit and trade between the UK and the EU, is that while negotiations are going, about decoupling the UK from EU/WTO agreements, trade will go on and there will be no disruption 'not automatically'.

In Oslo last week he said,

"Once they (the British) leave, legally the EU schedules no longer applies to them ... The other WTO members arguably could say: 'I don't like it. We should change this, or we should change that'," Roberto Azevedo told a business seminar in Oslo.

"A lot will depend on the terms of separation in the negotiations between the UK and the EU. That may have a positive impact on how the other WTO members view this or not.

"I don't think the global economy at this point in time can afford the luxury of more turbulence. The less turbulence we have the better. The quicker trade relations are established between the UK, the EU and other WTO members, the better."

Shocks to world trade is high on his agenda and he sees the possibility for disruption in the negotiations between the UK and the EU and that is why he said today, "I will work very intensely to ensure that this transition is fast and is smooth," he said. "The less turbulence the better. The global economy today is not in the best shape for us to be introducing turbulence."

It will be interesting to see if Article 50 exit negotiations will run as 'fast and smoothly' as Roberto Azevedo hopes.

Are you familiar with WTO tarrif quotas? Therein lies the biggest problem with the EU, UK and WTO, and in those negotiations, believe me the EU will be hugely aggressive.

It has now been reported by an august body that under WTO rules the EU will lose out more than we will over trade between us.

The EU leaders in Brussels and the leaders of the 27 are acting like parents trying to keep their naughty child in the nursery because he won't play ball and behave.

Come on ESK basically they are very upset that some one wants to leave their cosy little club and are cutting off their noses to spite their face rather than acting in a adult commonsense approach to negotiate for the mutual benefit of all.

These kind of things really annoy, look at the operative words in bold. Specualtion.

I expect everyone to negotiate aggressively, but I also want you and others to realise that when it comes down to the crunch the EU is a weightier and more important member of the WTO than the UK and ultimately that will be reflected in negotiations and the response of other WTO members.

That is undeniable.

Why is it undeniable????????? Because the EU leaders want to act like rear end holes.

I'm a sceptic of any body that holds power. I think the EU in its present form is far from perfect.

The thing is Joey, you're a fundamentalist. The second you say you can't be swayed by any argument, your credibility takes a dive. It means that you can't be swayed by reason.

I'm not against criticism of the EU - but it's been hugely beneficial to the UK, Brexit is likely to be damaging and you don't want to engage with this.

That's your problem, probably my generation and my children that will pay for it, but it's your perogative to vote and debate on the basis of your unfounded and poorly reasoned argument.

But it could be the other way and there will be great benefit.

Well the EU economy is on its knees Italian banks on the brink of going under the deuchland bank under investigation by the USA - The Spanish economy highest youth unemployment- zero growth, and the Uk electorate just voted to leave
Yes the EU is doing great maybe that's what the turbulence in that Rticle means as the EU is a member of the WTO????

A piece of recent thinking by some top people in the EU is a plan to combat Tax avoidance and evasion.

To harmonise business tax across the EU member states to remove competition to attract business. This will hurt the likes of Eire and that miniscule nonenity that Juncker came from. Effectively it will remove budgetary powers from member states who will see because of that their spending severely controlled. Not passed yet but does show the forward thinking that is in Brussels.
