Because it's totally against the founding principles of the NHS - meet the need of everyone, free at the point of delivery and is based on clinical need not the ability to pay.

It is singularly what sets our nation apart from all others, our greatest national achievement and institution.

Which is then subject to abuse.

I haven't spent a long period of time in England since I was a kid. Not familiar with the NHS inner workings. Is there no private hospitals? No option to pay through the nose to avoid the hassle of going public? Surely there are places you can just give a cc?
Oh for a public health system :)
Its not you its health tourism in the news now not citizens of the UK - its a topic thats being doing the rounds for a decade or so!
You're not on holiday are you.

Na, I'm also a bit out of my depth here. I just thought you were looking for an option to pay your healthcare bills with your credit card. crossed wires. I just head to Canada for medicine and Mexico for dental ;) Glad to read you're doing well.

We're at a time when this government are about to commit the biggest act of financial harikiri in a generation, yet we're supposed to believe they've developed a sense of economic prudence all of a sudden? This is nothing but a sop to the racists in their party who scarcely need a closet to hide in these days.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs*"

*just so long as you've paid in and have white skin

Bruce I do appreciate your public conscience and altruistic views. But just enlighten me here, if I was taken ill in say Czechoslovakia and taken to hospital and needed an operation but did not have my passport or EHIC card with me, what would happen ?....

Interesting that Nicola Sturgeon wants independence from Britain but to be ruled by the EU. She probably still thinks she's got all that oil. What's even more bizarre is the fact there is zero chance of Scotland as an independent nation being eligible for EU membership.

Basically votes don't matter in the UK anymore. Sure just have another one. ''Once in a lifetime..... or maybe twice..... maybe even 3 votes...... awk sure lets have one every year till we get the desired result.''

Democracy in action.

Look at that chart no wonder the EU is doing its best to bully us look at our standing in that table if we leave they are in the muck cart - MP remoaners like you are just helping them you and them cannot accept a democratic decision of 70.4 million who want OUT you can argue stats all you want why do we have to fund two parliaments who like to be the USA of Europe and ATM have Zero growth? Yes

You are making a lot of assumptions with that bit.

The UK faces the stark choice of either a hard Brexit or no Brexit, the president of the European council has said – the first time he has taken such a clear line on the likely outcome of the UK’s exit talks.

Just hours after the foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, had told a committee of MPs he was confident Britain could strike a better trade deal with the EU after Brexit, Donald Tusk used a speech in Brussels to scotch the idea that Britain can “have its cake and eat it”.

Speaking to an audience of policymakers in Brussels on Thursday, Tusk – who chairs EU leaders’ summits – said it was useless to speculate about a soft Brexit, in which the UK remained a member of the single market. “The only real alternative to a hard Brexit is no Brexit, even if today hardly anyone believes in such a possibility.”

Without naming Johnson, notorious in Brussels for his jokey phrase that Britain could have its cake and eat it, Tusk criticised “the proponents of the cake philosophy” who argued the UK could be part of the EU single market without bearing any of the costs.

“That was pure illusion, that one can have the EU cake and eat it too. To all who believe in it, I propose a simple experiment. Buy a cake, eat it, and see if it is still there on the plate.”

Business groups, Labour, and moderate Conservative backbenchers have all urged the government to strike a deal that maintains many of the benefits of the single market.

Johnson had earlier told the cross-party foreign affairs select committee: “We are going to get a deal which is of huge value and possibly of greater value … We are going to get the best possible deal for trade in goods and services.”

But Tusk warned that Brexit would leave both Britain, and the rest of the EU, worse off. “There will be no cakes on the table, for anyone. There will be only salt and vinegar.”

There you go the bully boys from the EU say you can,t have your cake and eat it so nothing's changed they stated that on day one!
Our MPs like rats in a sack squabbling - may will be strong enough to carry this vote through the public voted for btexit accept it!

Surprised it's even gone as far as the high court in that case. Will be interesting to see which way each MP goes

It'll be tricky for them, there'll be some constituencies that voted out where the MP truly believes that In is the way to go, and I'm sure the opposite will be true too. If it gets to a vote and it becomes a free vote I'm sure they'll consult their constituents. They'll be playing with their jobs.
