i really like his name
I tell you what if he was the leader now it would be a different story compare him with Corbyn he looks like a PM or a leader - Bah the torys will dominate for ten years if he is in place with his background and his oration his organisations his money trees etc etc!
the reason OUT won was because Labour heartlands had no faith in him!

Pinched from a newspaper:

'If you still believe Britain will get a sweet deal out of Brexit because "the EU needs the UK more than vice versa", ask yourself: why don't we hear European politicians pleading with Britain "not to punish the EU over Brexit"?'

So a Dutch author and news correspondent makes a big song and dance over the fact that any one of the Eu members can veto any deal.......oh dear.......

That's the problem, when people become susceptible to the cult of the personality, there is no reasoning with them.

If you say so.....
I do.

Actually I think your attempt to deride my point with a daft question asking if I'd negotiated with Govt's - when you knew the answer - was both meaningless deflection and an opportunity for you to try and claim some form of better knowledge on the issue, which you patently don't have - thus attempting to gain some form of superiority in the discussion. Leave it out Pete, you don't know anything about me and what my knowledge and credentials are. However, it makes not a jot of difference to this debate.

when corbyn goes there could actually be a decent contest between him and jarvis, although i wonder if one might support the other for one of the top jobs..those two in top jobs would actually give the tories something to think about

They're not intertwined, you argument is confused. We can leave the EU and retain single market access.

There'll be import tariffs on 44% of our exports that go to the EU if we give up access and end up on WTO tariffs. So our goods will become uncompetitive in our largest market.

That's before you factor in the difficulties that being outside of the single market will do to the supply chain btw, as our goods won't get speedy clearance, and in the world of just in time deliveries, not to mention perishables, that's not a good thing.

Do you realise a coin has two sides ? .......

Not liking Corbyn is reasonable enough mate, but saying the referendum was lost because of Labour heartlands is simply not the case.

A majority of Labour voters voted to remain, including in Heartlands such as Liverpool, Bristol, Oxford, London, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle and the entirety of Scotland.

A majority of Conservative voters voted to leave and belied the wishes of their government and Prime Minister as well as all the key members of the cabinet.

I am not saying that's a good or bad thing (I remain ambivalent on the EU) and am wary of notions that a referendum went 1 way or another because of one factor. However if we were to allocate one it would have been the failure of the government in not getting a majority of it's supporters, not the opposition that should be blamed when we look at the numbers.

This is why imo the out vote won ALL 27 countries all have to agree have they not heard of a majority vote????
how undemocratic is that ?????

Actually I think he is wrong anyway......this is article 50.....

1. Any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.

2. A Member State which decides to withdraw shall notify the European Council of its intention. In the light of the guidelines provided by the European Council, the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union. That agreement shall be negotiated in accordance with Article 218(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. It shall be concluded on behalf of the Union by the Council, acting by a qualified majority, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament.

3. The Treaties shall cease to apply to the State in question from the date of entry into force of the withdrawal agreement or, failing that, two years after the notification referred to in paragraph 2, unless the European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period.

4. For the purposes of paragraphs 2 and 3, the member of the European Council or of the Council representing the withdrawing Member State shall not participate in the discussions of the European Council or Council or in decisions concerning it.

A qualified majority shall be defined in accordance with Article 238(3)(b) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

5. If a State which has withdrawn from the Union asks to rejoin, its request shall be subject to the procedure referred to in Article 49.
