Ah ok. Yes, I listen to Roger Phillips' phone in daily, and much was made, pre-referendum, that it was 'advisory'.

So yes, I knew, but more has been made of it since.

Just to be clear, yes is my answer.

When you say 'yes' is that definite or advisory.......

Equally mate the obvious counter to your go ogling remark is why did so many people need to Google the EU? Could it be that it doesn't positively affect people's lives even to the extent that they are aware of its existence, amd tje expense of being a member was therefore deemed not worthwhile?

No offence but I think advocating a revote is a front to democracy and quite frankly absurd.
I'm not offended because I'm not, not anywhere, advocating a revote.

I merely wondered what the legal standing was.

Definitely advisory lol

This "advisory" talk is nonsense. It's like saying that the passing of the budget by parliament is "advisory" too because the Queen doesn't actually have to pass it to statute.

If you have a referendum you accept the will of the people.

Unless the vote is not what you wanted......

What is the problem exactly?

@Groucho was asking about legality and got an answer. Nobody tonight has advocated a revote nor that parliament ignores it just merely that legally they could if they wanted.

No it's not nonsense, there are two types of referendum. Advisory referendums are not legally binding, Binary ones are.

It's incredibly simple

Sometimes, in my experience at least, when people are very strongly of one opinion, posts don't get read fully, things get taken out of context, anger rises etc.

This essentially is why we don't really like political threads here. It's nothing to do with any political leaning. It's to keep peace between usually amicable members.

I always wish more people could agree to disagree. It won't kill anyone to do that. This post isn't aimed at anyone in particular by the way.

As far as I am aware parliament passed the motion on having a referendum on staying or leaving the EU presented by the PM on everything the ballot paper etc etc they had a debate and a vote it was 6-1 in favour of how the referendrum was carried out!
That's the reason the new PM has the right to act upon the result without going back to parliament, and why DC resigned!

And if the result was different, you think those of the opposite opinion would have gone 'well ok that's that'?

Be realistic.

Before the actual referendum, there was talk from the leave camp (when they thought they'd lose) that they would contest a close decision.
I can honestly say with my hand on my hart that I would of excepted the result of the referendum if it had been remain. It may sound old fashioned to some but I truly believe in democracy and the will of the majority, a right which was bitterly fought for by our forefathers and is only ignored now by the ignorant. I'd never fight to overhaul the will of 17.5 million voters if they had the majority regardless of my views on the result. If remain had won I'd of been gutted (though not surprised) and while I'd still believe that this country would suffer for its decision for many generations to come I'd except the final decision.

tories found out again right wing unelected dictator may in power..

So reading that 17.4 million had their arms tied up their back to vote out or the fact that the government under DC remain leaflets were sent out to every household at the tax payers expense promoting to stay in the EU costin 8-9 million pounds?
How can you relate that article as unfair as something as bad as that!
It's sounds a weak argument to me?
