So, guys, what are the EU doing that is so wonderful. Germany has become a financial basket case, Macron and Schulz are terrified of Putin, Eastern Europe are becoming disillusioned, everyone and his dog is using the veto to stop anything moving forward…so what is so fantastic…..

It wouldnt be an overstatement to say that Ireland underwent one of the most significant social, cultural and economic transformations due in no small part to membership of the EU. And it continues to do so. Freedom of movement, trade, ideas, safety standards, quality standards, worker protections, access to a wide open market. These are all things we enjoy a great deal, and if you think anyone over here is looking admiringly at the UK "standing on its own 2 feet", you are either having a laugh or are genuinely deluded

No argument from me over Ireland. They had to join once the U.K. decided to, but Ireland is not the U.K. who have historically traded around the world. Ireland seems happy being controlled by Brussels and good for them……

One benefit is the ability to work in lots of countries without having to apply for a work visa.
Your turn, one benefit of Brexit?

No mate, you’ve all agree there are no benefits to Brexit, so let’s stick with listing all the EU positives. There are over 6 million EU nationals working in the U.K., and while I know of a couple on here who are or will be working in the EU, how many British nationals are working in the EU ?

Wow, there’s a week’s worth of Telegraph headlines, squeezed into that one paragraph of pure Faragist fundamentalism.

Try asking yourself, why countries like Poland and Slovenia will soon overtake the UK, in terms of gdp ?

When you’ve grasped those facts. Here’s the truth about post Brexit UK.

You managed to get the Telegraph, Farage and a report which has nothing to do with the EU into that reply , well done. And the U.K. GDP is about three times the size of those two countries combined…..

Well, even if I just took your deliberate mischaracterisation of our relationship with the EU as a fact, I'd much prefer to be controlled by Brussels than the catastrophically incompetent shower of crooks and idiots that are driving the clowncar over there in the UK

Of course….

Erm, explain this one please Pete ?

Nic Laurens, who runs an abrasives supply firm in Shropshire, moved 90% of his company to the Republic of Ireland in order to remain in the EU.

I had a few hours stopover in Dublin recently and was amazed at the amount of construction going on. Felt like the city was booming

I don't think I've ever said there weren't any benefits to Brexit.

Surely it's fair to go one each? If you don't like that one, how about the benefit of being able to transport goods between Ireland, Northern Ireland and Britain without the clusterf..k we are trying to deal with now?

So, what's the first benefit you would like to suggest?

No mate, I know when I’m beaten, Brexit is the curse of all our ills and caused Russia to invade Ukraine and the Chinese to leave the lab door open. If we are going to go back into the EU I’m all ears……

Pete, my mistake in using GDP as the metric.

On present trends, the average Slovenian household will be better off than its British counterpart by 2024, and the average Polish family will move ahead before the end of the decade. A country in desperate need of migrant labour may soon have to ask new arrivals to take a pay cut.

Free movement for me - because that works both ways. There's now millions of remote workers who don't have the opportunity to move into Europe like the generations before them, who quite rightly, were able to take that for granted.

Thanks, yes I appreciate that yourself and a couple of others on here either are working or plan to work in the EU. You do raise a point though in respect of wfh. I ran an American company based in Washington while I was based in the U.K. but the type of work lent itself to wfh while short trips sorted out face to face meetings. While manual labour jobs will bring difficulties, creative or technical roles, administration etc etc can all be done over the internet. Security of operations and data etc brings differing problems but if the majority of our civil servants no longer go into the office, I’m pretty sure a Brussels EU type job can be done from here…..
