On the 3rd anniversary Theresa villiers prominent Tory and leading leave campaigner was asked to give one positive the people of the UK have experienced on leaving the the Eu , the only thing she had was “we can set our own immigration policy “. Don’t tell me that’s not what it was all about because it was and that’s all they’ve got , that’s their red meat.

On the Newsnight special last night the best the Brexit supporters could come up with was either

1. It's too early to tell. I always knew it was a 10-20 year project

2. Covid and Ukraine means you can't assess anything right now. Ask me in 5 years if we have a proper right wing government

And there in a nutshell you have it. This whole anti EU movement kicked off with angst against Eastern Europeans arriving in high numbers in the East of England to do cheap agricultural and fishing jobs. In places like Boston the immigrant population quickly became a material % and EE shops started opening all over.

That gave licence to the racists to jump on a bandwagon and fool the idiots.
Not aimed at you specifically, but it's a bugbear of the wife. Every single one of those "eastern" countries is actually a part of central Europe, alongside Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. They're often lazily branded as eastern as that can be a derogatory term in a way you wouldn't be able to use against the Swiss or Germans.

Only from remoaners…..

Come on, you are more intelligent than that, I also believe you are older than 12.

You might as well have said 'Your face has regrets' or maybe a bit more of a saucy retort like 'Your ma has regrets'.

However, let us debate in an adult manner, so I ask you, what do you believe the remainers have to regret, compared to the leavers?

Apologies I'd always (lazily) labelled the former Communist Countries in Europe as "Eastern European"?

I appreciate Austria is a bit awkward but if you had a geographic centre of all the countries (and lumped Czech and Slovakia together), carve out Greece as Southern and the Nordics as Northern then it does kind of hold true doesn't it?

Obviously @chicoazul would do a great job with a felt tip pen here but that was how I got to East and West - no offence intended!

"Prague is further to the west than Vienna," she'd tell you lol, but yeah, it does seem to be the norm here to lump every country that was subjugated by Russia as "east". Technically speaking, the only western European countries are the UK, Ireland, France, and the Benelux.

It's also perhaps worth noting that Hitler viewed Slavs as untermensch, so there is perhaps an understandable sensitivity to any intonations that they're inferior in any way, especially when lumped together like that under the umbrella of "eastern".

Remainers have never left the EU. All they do is moan. Guy Verhofstadt has even claimed that Putin would not have invaded Ukraine had the U.K. still been part of the EU. Those in the U.K. elite who believe they ‘know better’ do everything to undermine Brexit, aided by the EU, as a way to force a return. Many Remainers will never give up the struggle of attempting to overcome the vote and all this does is damage and undermine the U.K. Scotland is a prime example, it wanted to stay in the U.K. but wanted to remain, and you have to respect their reasons. But of course the SNP now use this as a way to leave the U.K. and join the EU. Meanwhile because the SNP led government is doing everything it can to pick a fight with Westminster (the trans debacle being the latest nonsense), Scotland is going to the dogs in education, health, drugs, etc because the political focus is not on making the U.K. work….

Pete, surely even you..

Agree Scotland only voted against independence because of the EU issue - the SNP were derided for suggesting they'd be able to join the EU as an independent country and so the Unionists pointed to the UK's position in Europe as a reason to vote against independence. Even if that only accounted for 5% it was enough.

Regards your actual Brexit comments:

- come on please admit it's a bit laughable that you or anyone can't point to a single benefit we've had of leaving. And with the change of demographics and a coming Labour government the UK will effectively be back in the EU within 5 years anyway

Think there's a bit more than that Pete, even though it's been such an obvious, resounding success

Who to believe though. The media will tell us anything just to get sales, the pollsters always seem to get it wrong (remember when they said we would all vote remain) but the people I know are quite happy out of the EU and the one remain voter wishes he’d voted leave. So I don’t know and I doubt anyone really does. I just wish the Remainers would give it a rest, accept the vote and get on with doing the best for the U.K. as it’s in all our interests…….

Are you not just moaning, as that is what you are talking about, not regrets but moaning about people moaning?

Ergh, I live in 2nd least "bregetful" area, next door to the Boston constituency, makes me sad.

Also our MP is John Hayes, that MP whos wife got emails from Braverman and has also spoken out about sacking civil servants for not breaking international law.

Looking at that map and the fact he's had a seat since 97 means it's probably gonna stay this way for a very long time.
