No mate. I was thinking of the British empire over the centuries and how little it offered those in absolute poverty within the U.K…..

I mean, if you voted Brexit because you wanted to take a step to move away from Britain’s colonial empire past, due to the negative impact it had on Britain’s poorest, then fair play to ya Pete.

Maybe that’s what they meant to put on the side of that bus, but it was too long.

Which sounds interesting, until you see that they're chucking "up to £2 million" at it. Like most post-Brexit initiatives it appears to be trying to replicate what was had in the EU but with far less money involved.

What do you expect the U.K. to do. Continuing within Horizon was part of the withdrawal agreement which the EU is now using as a political football to ‘punish’ the UK. I know you will never admit it, but the EU is reinforcing everything Leave voters believed about this petty bureaucracy. See how tough they can be on U.K. but bend over backwards for Russia, then propose that the U.K. join some European Security Council. The EU have been shown up by the financial crisis, the Covid pandemic and now the Ukraine. Best thing we have ever done leaving that cesspit…..

I've always said that we were a good influence on Brussels, and our leaving was harmful to the EU as much as it has been for us. What is clear is that the research community certainly didn't want Brexit and they certainly don't want uncertainty around Horizon to continue.

Ext. Dusk.

Old man: Ceases to shake walking stick that accompanied monologue. Turns 360 degrees slowly, wondering where crowd has gone.

Fade to black.

The price of electricity is internationally defined + upkeep of their nuclear facilities is becoming a problem.
This graph show how capacity has been affected by repairs & downtime. They're importing energy now, rather than exporting it five years ago.

What does this mean? There is an internationally set price for electricity? Because it varies from country to country.

UK and Switzerland are going to join up. EU loses about £20Bn of research funding. EU scientific community are not happy with the EU, but the EU bureaucracy won’t care. Yes Brexit caused the initial issue, but the WA incorporated U.K. being part of Horizon. This is just more EU pettiness which thankfully we just don’t need…..

I suppose that's the point, we very much do. You seem to be of the opinion that we can ignore Europe just because they may be annoying at times. We can't, and we're all better off when we find ways to get on.

Bruce I totally agree. I would like the U.K. to work with Europe on lots of things, it’s just common sense. Unfortunately the EU has absolutely no common sense. While they continue with this ‘lets punish the U.K.’ for daring to leave, they will continue to shoot themselves in the foot and we will diverge even further. The U.K. is doing ok, as I expected, and the EU are not exactly setting the world alight, also as I expected. The next EU argument and political shot in foot will be Galileo, and we will do our own thing and partner with NASA or whoever and the EU will again lose out. It’s a sad state of affairs but it’s driven by EU politics and it’s bureaucracy………
