Truck driver from Europe getting interviewed on the news. Said this isn’t really down to Brexit it’s the haulage industry as a whole across Europe. Conditions are poor everywhere.
Poland needs 125,000 lorry drivers.
only Brexit issue raised was the fact that last Christmas European drivers where all stuck in Kent and couldn’t get back home.

no toilet facilities and lack of parking seems to be the main conditions. But this has been an industry issue for decades. Government not interested and helping obtain better working conditions.

also if these insulate Britain protestors had any brains about them, then would go and blockade the oil refineries and stop deliveries getting to petrol stations. I can’t stand them by the way.

I'm afraid that us re-joining is off the agenda for a generation at least. For one thing why would the EU accept us? At best, there'd be a sizable minority in the UK who would immediately campaign to leave. I can't see the EU touching us with a barge pole, to say nothing of the distinct lack of attraction for any political party in the UK to think of re-starting the whole Brexit arguments.
I can assure you the eu would take us back with no arguments at all. For them it’s a political and imperialist project. To have us annexed again would fit very well within their worldview

They wont. Not this generation of politicians.
They'll make an example out of the UK. Especially France is out for revenge. They're smelling blood already on Ireland & unification & an independant Scotland. If a new referendum takes place, they will promise Scotland fasttrack membership...

Perhaps if they make 2 EU's ( EU with ''2 speeds''), one more integrated with, for example, shared defence spending (spain-france-italy-germany) & a wider, looser alliance (with central-europe & Holland), I can see the UK getting membership to that alliance.

a few things here.
There already was a two speed EU with the UK being in the slower speed. Basically, when the UK was a member of the EU, it had it's cake and was eating it, but then decided to hand the cake back (ok, I'll leave the clunky analogy here).
And on Scottish indy. If they do vote yes, I've no idea what the EU implications would be but I'd imagine they'll be fast tracked, not because the EU is smelling blood or out for revenge, but because, you know, Scotland voted to stay in the EU.

By no arguments at all I meant if we subjugated ourselves to them completely.

obviously if we tried to negotiate a brexit lite it wouldn’t work. As you say they are colonialists and imperialists out for revenge.

Although having said that we are well-known for wriggling or trying to wriggle out of deals (protocol etc) so all they would have is our promise not to ‘act up’ in the future. Even so due to the level of vanity involved in the eu project I think they’d take it tbh.

They’d paint it as a conquered nation crawling for mercy on their hands and knees. Which it would be actually if it transpired.

I could be wrong but I don’t think the eu, as an institution, has a history of colonialism but erm.. we very much do.

The French do.

its an interesting point actually, and one that is missed by most British people - and that is the EU and it’s ability to survive and thrive is politically of paramount importance to its participants. And actually I don’t blame them for that.

Some of the Western-European countries want the 27-state consensus to disappear; they want to pass laws & budgets without the approval of countries like Hungary --> That's what I mean with 2 speeds.

Scottish independence will be virulently opposed by Spain (Catalunya & Basks....) but I suspect France (and the European Liberal Party) will really work hard to push a fasttrack through. They'll promise European funding for cultural & agricultural purposes to make things even sweeter for Scots.

Belgium (Congo), Italy (Libya), Germany (Kenia & Tanzania) & of course Spain & Portugal.
They don't have any moral superiority on that level ;)
Certainly you’ve just confirmed that most of the key Eu members have a ‘rich’ for want of a better word - colonial past - why would it so easily be forgotten by them?
