I tell you something I found interesting. As part of my MA I did my dissertation based on low cost private schooling in Ghana. Loads of the official exercise books the schools provided had covers of premier league footballers on them. Found it a bit disconcerting that kids from families with barely any cash were learning with materials showing insanely wealthy individuals.
I think it would be an interesting study to look at the impact of the premier league on the perceptions of U.K. living as a whole. I felt it may influence people’s desire to want to move here. I tried telling guys that wanted to move here it was a miserable shithole but they weren’t having it.
Most the Ghanaians I met were Chelsea fans after Essien.
Things like the Premier League, Wimbledon, James Bond, even the BBC, are huge aspects of the image the world has of the UK. It's a sepia-tinged image of the country but it's a big part of our "soft power" around the world.

When I worked with refugees and asylum seekers, almost everyone wanted a Barclays bank account - in spite of advice to the contrary.

Barclays was what they knew.

But, on the plus side, I'm glad we're keeping out all these tourists and chefs who want to destroy our way of life. How are the tractor quotas coming in the centrally planned economy comrade @peteblue ?

Lest we forget that this was supposed to make things easier...

Why doesn't he just go Halfords like Pete said?

Can't wait for that new TV station to expose these whiners for the traitors they really are. The last Labour government made them all too soft. Thanks Boris for sticking it to the elite!

Hate going through US customs. Hope we don’t end up like that.
I agree on travel into the US, but I do think this is a little different.

By the look of both of those cases, what was triggering the additional enquiries was that the individuals didn't have return transport booked and most people coming here on holiday will have. I'm not saying those incidents were isolated as I have no idea, but they certainly won't be the norm.

My next visit to Europe will most likely be by cruise as the missus doesn't fly. It'll be interesting to see what happens at European ports when cruising start again.

It's a principle though. We've moved from an assumption of innocence to an assumption of guilt, all while continuing to peddle the nonsense that is "global Britain".

No we haven't Bruce. The only change is that people from the EU have to go through what people from the rest of the world have had to go through for decades. In much the same way that the UK is now classed as a "third country" by the EU.

I flew a few months ago. Was weird getting passport stamped and waiting in line. Was obviously pretty quiet though so was through quick enough.

Yes, which is not a good thing. With free movement you assume people are good, which they nearly always are. With how the "rest of the world" is treated, you have to prove that you're good and a mandarin casts judgement (or a computer in many cases). Great progress.

Brexiters: yeah, that looks fun, lets have us a bit of that.

I flew to Dubai a few years ago which was obviously outside the EU. Last time I flew to Europe was 1994 and I can't remember what happened tbh. Think I had to stand in a queue and show my passport but it probably wasn't stamped. Visiting by cruise is a bit different because thousands are disembarking. Russia and USA were both nightmares but everywhere else, including the Caribbean, were very easy. I'm not sure what the procedure will be.
