Pete the EU did what the normally do jumped to the German/French tune.
Both countries had plans to make 300 million vaccines each, enough to cover the population of the EU that the rest would use, because they are in agreement to buy together as a block (the main two more or less corner the market,) it's gone tits up and now they are getting desperate.
Germany got told off the other week, January the 8th, by the EU commission for buying millions of vaccines from a company based in Malta (German owned) that had sourced them from Israel, the Germans then said they were not breaking ranks as the vaccines went towards their portion of the agreed EU vaccine procurement.
Caught red handed more like.
Dont blame them personally trying to help their own people , but dont be two faced about were all in it together.

This is what I’m on about, Germany have done this consistently, about PPE and now vaccines. And even their latest attempt at putting down AZ is all about getting their own over priced vaccines sold in the EU...I cba with them anymore, we left, we are doing our own thing and not doing too bad a job of it. So no animosity, let’s just get on with it and get our people vaccinated.....

Does "not doing too bad a job of it" equate to having far more deaths than anywhere else in Europe? Nearly three times as many per capita as your beloved Germany. Is that doing okay in your book? And that's even with the pig's ear mainland Europe is making of vaccinations. Indeed, the average deaths per million across the EU27 is just over 800. In the UK it's over 1,500. Get out the bunting.

Or to put it another way, if the EU27 had the same death rate as the UK it would have resulted in over 300,000 more people having died.

The government have done a bad job of it to slow to move all the time , always seem to reacted a few weeks late and not getting a clear message out, ie on exercise which resulted in packs of people roaming about great numbers during lockdown.
They have been decent on rolling the vaccination out, even I will admit that as much as it pains me to give any praise to a tory government.

by the bullies especially

And the insecure and those worried about the virus, and anyone who has witnessed the EU making this a public spat.

Totally unprofessional IMO. The EU should have spoken with AstraZeneca and the UK gov if help was needed privately, in confidence, and with respect. Instead, they have used the opportunity to save face by creating a PR battle.

Really? If AZ had told us we’d get 40% of what we’d ordered, paid for and they’d promised to deliver, do you think we would have remained silent?

The EU are entirely right to kick off in these circumstances, as we would be.

Well we did when Pfizer had major issues in December. We didn't publicly drag them over the coals.

Why arebt the EU demanding the US gives them some of their Pfizer vaccine? Or India to give them the AZ vaccine? That's right they don't have the balls. Much easier to threaten the country that we have some control over.

Bullies

pfizer didn’t say we weren’t going to get what was promised though; in fact even with the later delays this month they were very clear that the Q1 figure would be delivered.

Plus there are slippages and there's a 60% reduction in what you promised. That's huge. The Commission have undoubtedly dropped the ball, but it's hard to escape the fact that this failure to deliver on promises will have a huge impact on a great many people.

Pfizer have delayed it. Its been all over the press

They have, with the promise that Q1 delivery will still happen.

That’s the big difference here, and why the EU aren’t having a go at Pfizer either. If Pfizer has said we (or the EU) will be only getting 40% of the order then we’d be going after them as well.
