I hope it doesn't end up with supplies intended for the UK being diverted,
I think the UK would be best served staying well clear. Unless of course capacity is diverted away from the UK then we should seek as much recourse as possible.

We could potentially voluntarily offer to give some capacity away to assist of course, on the condition of reciprocity from the EU - that way we potentially keep our uninterrupted supply (hopefully), improve relations with the EU and benefit AZ and ultimately the wider global community.

Might be the mature thing to do...

This might be of interest

That article is the first time I have seen anything about the possible issues I have been musing for a few days. Everyone is understandably focused on the distribution of the vaccines, but the more complex and just as important, is the production and distribution of the ingredients and stuff.

Like needles, and vials, and whatever goes into the actual jab. Cos we havent as a world only just started making vaccines and potions, we must make billions every day. But THAT supply chain has also been asked to increase, massively. Without stopping making and resourcing everything they already do. Its quite a feat.

Absolutely, a competent government would insist on full and prompt delivery and then give a % to our allies and partners in Europe to help them with this shortfall.

Well we might, given our 'success' in rollout, allocate some percentage to the EU so as to prevent/ensure we aren't hit with similar supply issues of our own.

Pete, you've added next to no substance to this discussion so a little less of the condescension.

erm....

Bruce, a mate of mine works with 3M and his engineering group are responsible for setting up various product production lines. He was always telling me about problems of set up, yield, rate of production etc etc. Needless to say there is a fair bit involved and it is a highly skilled job. Many times there were bringing in Engineers from around the world to deal with specific issues on the lines. This was just putting the product into suitable packaging, never mind the actual manufacture of the product.

The attached gives a tiny bit of understanding of the issues the vaccine manufacturers face...

We suspect a supply problem here in France although no comment from government.
An elaborate system for vaccination has been set up but people can't get appointments due to "excessive demand".
There's not enough stuff to meet vaccination targets.

I‘m sure France will sort itself out when it focuses on the virus and not on truck drivers sandwiches and paperwork....

I was just thinking what it would be like in here if the U.K. and EU roles in this AZ affair were reversed...

The U.K. were arguing about price and didn’t put any orders in until 3 months after the EU. Boris said that ‘We know we ordered 3 months later but we want them delivered at the same time as the EU zones’

AZ told the U.K. that there was a problem in Wrexham and yield is reduced hence fewer vaccines.

Boris...

’AZ have told us we are getting fewer vaccines, but the EU are still getting theirs, this is totally against the contract I signed where they said they would use ‘best endeavours’ to deliver our vaccines.

’They have breached their contract and I’m going to take them to court’

’I have demanded that they use the EU manufacturing plants to make up the difference from the EU deliveries’

’This is not like going into a Butchers shop and standing in a queue’

’I’m not going to allow any of the other vaccines, ordered and made in the U.K., to be delivered to the EU’

’I’ve sent in a team to the manufacturers to check that none are being sent to the EU’

The Daily Mail puts out a story that the German designed Pfizer vaccine cannot be given to anyone over 65, having been briefed by unknown British cabinet members.

The British MHRA picks up the story and goes with the political flow.

British MP’s suggest that no vaccines should be allowed out of the country and that a trade war may result.

Now just imagine the responses from our Remainer friends in here. If I attempted to defend any of the above, the abuse and mockery would be off the scale and words like hypocrite and vaccine nationalist would be tossed about in every post......Boris of course would be strung up....

The MHRA following the Daily Mail. Imagine what a world that would be lol

Yet Germany are doing just that.....
Pete the EU did what the normally do jumped to the German/French tune.
Both countries had plans to make 300 million vaccines each, enough to cover the population of the EU that the rest would use, because they are in agreement to buy together as a block (the main two more or less corner the market,) it's gone tits up and now they are getting desperate.
Germany got told off the other week, January the 8th, by the EU commission for buying millions of vaccines from a company based in Malta (German owned) that had sourced them from Israel, the Germans then said they were not breaking ranks as the vaccines went towards their portion of the agreed EU vaccine procurement.
Caught red handed more like.
Dont blame them personally trying to help their own people , but dont be two faced about were all in it together.
