No. I was 10. ish.

I did vote for a pal called Pete to be milk monitor though.

Similar age to Farage then.

I did vote to remain in Europe, but we had been given cast iron guarantees by both Edward Heath and Harold Wilson that there would be no loss of Sovereignty.

In June 1971, a White Paper was sent to every home in the UK, promising that, “there is no question of Britain losing essential sovereignty”.

Then, in a television broadcast in January 1973 to mark the signing of the Treaty of Rome, Edward Heath said “There are some in this country who fear that, in going into Europe, we shall in some way sacrifice independence and sovereignty. These fears, I need hardly say, are completely unjustified.”

However with the release of Government papers under the 30-year rule, we now know that both Labour and Conservative governments had been briefed, time and time again, about the loss of national sovereignty. They were also warned that the ultimate aim was political union across Europe.

Both Edward Heath and Harold Wilson knew that, in joining the Common Market, they were ceding sovereignty and joining a political project which had as its end goal the creation of a federal United States of Europe.

We were lied to right from the start, then they continued the lies with every change to the treaties, ‘tidying up exercises’ I seem to remember, until we eventually got our chance to vote again. Did both sides lie, without a shadow of a doubt. Did I take any notice of the crap being told in making my decision, No, and I would bet a fair number of people who voted the first time were the same.

We were told it was only the ‘old folk’ who voted to leave, now perhaps you know why.

Even now the people of Europe are being lied to. I kept saying that the EU really wants a United States of Europe and it’s own army and everything of a nation state. It’s currently complaining that the U.K. will not treat it’s ‘embassy’ as if it were a state, even saying but we make laws , a currency etc etc. But of course everyone on here said ‘oh no Pete that’s not what it’s about’, yet that’s the continuing lie that you are being fed.

If Heath had said, we are going on a journey of political integration with the rest of Europe, he would have been strung up. If Major or Brown had said the aim is for a European state, they would have been strung up. But all along they knew.

Now if we had a referendum asking do you wish to become a country called the United States of Europe with 450 million people, that would at least be an honest question and I imagine many on here would probably vote for it, but a great many more within Europe would not, so that’s why they will never admit it until it finally happens...that’s the real lie, not some stupid £350 million on the side of a bus.....

Nissan staying and commit to building electric cars here in the future, so some good news.
Not EU related but I am sure they have found some major find of a mineral used in making the batteries for electric cars in Cornwall a while back cant for the life of me recall were I read it.
Aye I seen that. Hopefully will continue and expand production. Seems to be pretty unstable though to be honest as its in the news too much for my liking. Sunderland must be one of the most impoverished cities in England. If that went I would dread to think what would happen to the city.
Don’t particularly like how much power Nissan has either as evidenced by that weird meeting the CEO had with May after the brexit vote.

Can‘t take a ham sarney into the EU.....we told you Brexit was crap

Nissan say Brexit has given them commercial advantage and moves electric car battery production from Japan to the U.K..... giving them too much power.....

Isn't that advantage mainly because it's been made harder for other UK based manufacturers to import batteries so having your own facility is an advantage?

Plus I'm sure if the government gave me £80 million I'd say the odd nice thing. Hard to voice dissent with money stuffed down your gob.

It’s no bad thing having your own facility. A pathetic £80 million bung is hardly European levels of State Aid......
