I have cheque accounts with 2 UK banks (not Barclays), both accounts are operating normally.
I did have a Barclaycard Visa however. That account has been closed.
I have also an MBNA Visa card. That one is OK.
I live in France.

Do you have an address in the U.K.? Kinda wish I’d never said anything to them and just kept it running as normal

No,no UK address that I can use. That's why B/C binned my a/c.
I know also that it may not be easy to open a UK bank acount from a foreign address. A lot of people bend the law by declaring a relative's UK address although they are not resident there.

That’s what I’m about to investigate. Think that may be problematic now though, with the new residency laws.

Not minor at all, major hassle tbf, changed from one UK bank to another a few years ago and that was a pain in itself. Dread to think what other hoops you will have to jump through, but hopefully nothing you cannot overcome
