Optimism from a remainer. Well done Starmer.
With respect, that's largely the nature of humanity. Mankind progresses so the rising tide will almost inevitably lift the UK up. See below for the benefits of a global Britain being actually integrated into things rather than standing aloof.

And yet there was a lot of disquiet during the campaign about the contributions made by the UK to the EU. Indeed, the decision not to continue with Erasmus was done largely due to its cost. Do you remember? It was on the side of the bus.
Yes but here we can decide whether to continue or not. And vice versa. WE decide if we want to spend our money

TBF there’s nothing inevitable about progress or human betterment - we stared into the abyss ourselves twice last century, and there are loads of places around the world now where countries and societies have collapsed, making life far worse than it was previously.

But optimism drives you forwards. Pessimism drives you down. Shall we forever be arguing these points. Me I prefer that we all get on with it now. But I'm an optimist

From a purely personal perspective, the agency I work with in the Commission are not included in the agreement, so whether the UK is still part of it remains to be seen. I know the rhetoric is that everything is done and dusted, but there's still a lot to sort out.
As you say I think getting the deal was the important thing for both sides but lots of stuff still needs sorting out

Ah, still reading that agreement eh.

I finished it earlier.

Wait until you get to page 642.
In all seriousness though, it's almost impossible to read through the entirety of that document and understand all the ramifications of every aspect. The detail of the deal is the important part which can potentially alter lives of many people in the UK/EU, and yet the parliamentary bill allows ratification without parliamentary oversight.

The UK is pushing through incredibly far reaching legislation, which will immediately cause incompatibility with UK laws. Those laws will have to be changed very quickly... But can be done so without any parliamentary scrutiny under the terms of the Bill.

'Regaining sovereignty' to completely bypass/undermine parliament (parliamentary Sovereignty) is a bit ironic.

Given the current Government track record with spending public money, do you think that's a good idea?

'Boris Johnson announced today his plans to build £40bn pommel horse in Liverpool City Centre to represent the city's 'vaulting ambition'.'

For me The EU debate has gone. The big test for me is that the blond idiot delivers on his leveling up agenda. The HS3 is an important one to start with. But I won't hold my breadth. The Tories and labour haven't delivered for the north in many years

It may have gone for you, but the actual implications of the deal will be drip fed over the next few years. Simply saying 'move on' won't actually change the fact.

Boris will do about as much leveling up as he has 'protecting our fishing' and 'taking back our Sovereignty'.

Re the moving on shtick. Suffice to say I'm not sat here twiddling my thumbs and am trying to hedge the risk, but nonetheless, if the Commission decides it doesn't want to work with the UK as much then that is a hole I'd rather not have had to fill.

Even eel farm man isn't going to throw his hands up and say stuff it. People will do the best they can regardless. The job of government is to make it easier. Right now, they have failed.
