Your man and other dinosaurs like him spent their lives opposing the EU Dave. Glass houses.

Quite.

“European empire, Frankenstein military machine subservient to NATO, I wish we were having a British referendum” were Jezza’s words as recently as 2009.

Opposed staying in the single market in 2017, and wanted article 50 invoking immediately once the leave vote came in.

Looking at the chart posted on here, it appears that only the duty and quotas are aligned. Good because that stops all the counter duty stuff, like say, I tax your fish 10%, so you tax my wine 12%. Stops things spiralling out of control.

But country of origin and SPS checks look to be required. So in terms of supply, we would have to get a certificate from the chamber of commerce to prove origin, any dairy would require defra documents and a very expensive vet to be present to fill them out. Heat treated pallets are also still required as is my understanding.

Seems like they are playing to the crowd with the zero tariffs but considerable cost and time will still be added to supply. Government will still make a load of cash. But they will avoid all the hassle of negotiating duty. Win win for the government, cost of goods will still go up.

Is the way I read it anyway. :)

And bureaucracy ultimately costs money, and who is going to pay for it... First wheel bearing on the reinvented Morris Marina begins to shatter...

Prepare to export goods from Great Britain to the EU from 1 January 2021 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
As with most new stuff the first few months it may well be. But the bureaucracy will get easier to navigate. I don't know but will his bureaucracy also apply to EU businesses exporting to the UK.
Just worried bout my brie and the bacon that goes into my BLT sandwich from M&s

No mate, the EU have given the ROI back to NI and the U.K.......

That's not how it sounds Pete, seems there are going to be controls between NI and GB which I thought were a big no no. The Tories kept quiet on NI and just put out there that fishing was the main point of disagreement to do a sleight of hand and distract from the main sticking point imho.

I think in the game of chicken we swerved first and now we have NI operating on different terms and Scotland pissed that they have what they want.

Tbh, I’m really pleased that NI has the best of both worlds, a part of the world that had suffered so much, for so long, they deserve the best of everything and I would begrudge them nothing and give them everything.

Scotland on the other hand has received large payments allowing this SNP government to give freebies to everyone, even EU students at their Universities, while decrying and giving nothing to the rest of the U.K. who provided the money. They complain, take and offer nothing. If they wish to go then please do so. Just give the rest of us a vote and you will be gone tomorrow and bankrupt the day after.

The U.K. and EU look as though they have sorted out a deal for everyone, apart from the crying SNP who I think may have a bit of a reality check in 2021.

I have admiration for Lord Frost and his team, and it was obvious from his initial appointment that he was a totally different kettle of fish from the previous cretinous Europhile Olly Robbins. Boris has been a breath of fresh air in comparison to the defeatist Theresa May. Brexit was nearly thrown away and lost during her time, but thankfully her disgraceful government, Parliament and Speaker were thrown out on their ears and no longer have any power in our land. Brexit is done, the deal, still to be approved, will satisfy most people and our new relationship with the EU and the World can begin.....

Pete shifting his hatred from the Irish to the Scots, what else will 2020 bring before the window shuts?

On the money this from Der Spiegel:

“Many politicians and citizens in Great Britain do not perceive themselves to be Europeans among many other Europeans. And Great Britain does not think of itself as one European country among many, but a very special or even chosen one.”

“Of course not all Brits think like that. But sadly they are not the ones currently in charge. That is why their country’s departure from the EU is not an unreasonable development.

“The EU will be freer to take the steps it needs to take in order to assert itself against the USA and China – because it is running out of time to do so. Great Britain, on the other hand, might need Brexit to realise how small the bit part it will play on the world stage will really be.”

That reads as though the UK was holding the EU back in asserting itself against the USA and China.

How ?

The US and China have huge domestic markets, which helps enormously with new technologies etc. The single market is a great start, but it's not as integrated as it would need to be, especially in services. Sadly, even this level of integration scared the Tories...

How ?
There are rumblings of a EU /China deal in the offering, including investment from China ,but it must involve Chinese firms.
That isnt going to go down well with the USA ,
If we had still been in there might have been a different outcome, so I suppose they could say we could have been holding them back from a China Deal, as Boris inst kean on that at the moment only thing I can think of?
