Surprised by the jubilant reaction to this deal in the UK media.

Very little good in it from a UK perspective. Here’s how it’s being reported on Europe and a break down of rights lost for UK citizens.

A look at the detail: What is in the Brexit trade deal?

No one is really bothered mate. Some kind of deal has been done, we finally leave on the 31st and get on with our lives on the 1st of the New Year......I hope the EU feel they have won, personally I couldn’t give a crap.....

Not at all. Large portions of my family are scousers hence the everton upbringing.

But liverpudlians seem to think all labour voters love the EU. Simply not the case.

Liverpool has done very well out of the EU since Maggie tried to exterminate the city, totally get that. But vast areas of the North and the Midlands haven't been so lucky

And I'd like to add that unfortunately for Labour voters Nd believe it or not.... im one of them. The red wall that Boris turned blue will think he has done exactly what he promised.

Got a deal with tariff free trade and curbs on immigration

No one cares mate. People who voted leave know we have got free access to trade and can control our borders again

Now we need to announce the building of a new Royal ship Britannia to shoot around the globe oiling the wheels of trade deals and flying the flag. We’ve been sat on our bleeding hands, moping around for too long. Build or buy a ship, use one of the Carriers if need be, and get our salesmen and women out there doing deals....come on Boris this is what you were made for.......
I think people tend to use planes nowadays.

The points based immigration system is not part of this agreement - free movement regulations end for the UK on January 1st under last years Withdrawal Agreement.

Was always going to be mate. Both sides have to much to loose/gain, the subtlety of the deal was in how you position yourself and your business to be competitive. This creates massive bureaucracy in enabling to the UK to trade comparatively in my opinion, with good and services in the EU. The UK will always be pulled to bend to the EU by a geographical lunar pull.

What I’m surprised about are the red lines, there wasn’t any really. The whole thing and brexit really was pointless.

Essentially no tariffs, make it harder on yourselves to do business and be competitive, restrict free movement.

It’s actually quite amazing it took this long to negotiate.

Best of luck to the UK, doesn’t make sense to me, but hope it works out.

Yes but they've still got the extra £350m per week for the NHS that they were promised to look forward to starting next Friday.

They have, haven't they ? :coffee:

No plane has ever been built to entertain and impress many prospective customers and their families at the same time... A ship is special, like no other platform can be...and no one provides a welcome like the Navy and Our Queen...

Its worth having a go. If it fails then with tail between legs we’ll be back. If it succeeds then the EU will either take note and adapt or fall apart as France and Germany break ranks. Either way we will all succeed.....

I see a 5 and a half year adjustment period built in mate. Everyone a winner, Johnson delivers in the short term, The EU probably know he won’t be PM in five year time.

Think the Brexit issue will be on the UK political landscape for a while yet.

We better keep this thread open.

What do we actually get in return?
