You know full well Pete that increased costs and therefore increased retail prices drive down consumer demand if products are deemed to be luxury/non-essential.

It’s not as simple as everybody put your prices up and we’ll all be hunky dory.

Indeed, but people will still pay for luxury items whatever the price, for the more value priced items a small % increase is neither here nor there.

Agereed, but that will be a short term issue. Goods will flow agains after the initial shock.

Everyone should have known about tariffs.. it's like some of these small business on twitter have never heard of them

To be fair, the Tories have spent a year telling everybody we have an oven ready deal and that the EU wouldn’t possibly impose tariffs on us.

They know what is going on, and how to get around it, but almost everyone of them going onto Twitter to complain will have voted remain.....

Not when cost of living increases across the board and people start tightening their belts.

Im a bit confused as you seem to be arguing that a sudden increase in prices with no increase in income won’t impact business.

I honestly don't understand some of those posts... is the corset maker saying she can no longer buy her materials from the EU? Have none of the above made plans for a no deal? Did they think that was impossible?

I'm actually not being arguementative here or pro brexit etc.. geniuniely curious how and why business owners haven't planned for this and why they can't get materials form the EU

the enforcement agencies at the border don’t know what to plan for, never mind business.

In 20 days we leave the EU and decisions still haven’t been made on large aspects of border controls

it’s truly marvellous

Currently 41% of port traffic is from the EU.

Literally overnight all of that traffic will have additional checks and barriers to entry which these crossings are not designed to deal with.

It’s a complete mess. Luckily we’ve got a great pro-business government at the helm to get it sorted.

Im afraid it does Bruce. You may not like it... but it does.

A citizen of the UK gets to vote on policies in the UK, foreign nationals living here do not.

I got to vote on whether I wanted mass uncontrolled immigration into continue and I voted No.

Thats the harsh truth

That harsh truth is that you don't know EU directives and how the UK has never enforced the legislation.

2004/38/EC allows nations to remove EU citizens after 3 months if they are not employed or have the resources to support themselves and their families so they're not a burden on social assistance systems.

The UK has never enforced the requirement for EU citizens to register for residence, it's never tracked EU citizens coming or going into the UK. Your gripe lies with the governments who've never used the tools at their disposal.
