They’ve made all current staff redundant, rumour (and admittedly it is rumour) they will bring in already trained and vetted staff of their own to begin with.

I doubt they will bring people in from outside of the area and pay relocation expenses for them. It’s much simpler to put the current staff through the vetting process, so tell him not to give up all hope just yet......

I work extensively with the EU and they're far from perfect, and frankly, the request that the UK abide by EU standards in perpetuity (with obviously no say in those standards) is a crazy idea that they must surely have known could never be accepted. There are also the obvious issues around Hungary and Poland, and the horrendous camps in Greece that are out of sight, out of mind.

So I'm not blind to their faults, but still think they are trying to do the right thing, and the world would be generally better off if it was more EU than less.

Plus, it's much easier to reform an entity like the EU when you're actually in it as opposed to being outside it

I could be wrong here, but haven’t the Eu agreed deals with us previously?

Indeed, but they wish to punish us and have done ever since appointing Barnier. I think he’s done a decent job for the EU as Frost has done a decent job for the U.K. I would guess that Barnier would like to get a deal done, as he should be retiring early in the New Year, but Macron has him on a short lead and seems to be calling the shots...but who really knows....

Most definitely.

So if it was a crazy idea and assuming the EU is not crazy, why did they do it.

I would think that if the world was a single country then it would be a wonderful place, and maybe one day it will be. But more of the EU is not the answer......

Plus, of course, as objectionable as the likes of Hungary (Orban) are, it does seem the more grown-up approach to accept they exist and find ways to work with them, even if you don't agree with them. Wishing them away doesn't seem the right approach either, which is kinda what we're doing with the EU.

Are we? I think we all accept the EU exists and we still want to trade with them.
