Just to clarify exactly

It's a container shortage - during the lockdown - all the Asian containers were shipped to the EU and to US and not returned in time. Hence some of the increase.

BUT

UK container ports have major logistics problems (i.e. lazy, inefficient and outdated) compared to their European brethren.

Felixstowe (40% of our container traffic) was so bad that 35% of slots there were wasted in November.

One of the largest MV ships in the world stopped offloading half-way thru and left Britain to continue to EU ports as it was behind schedule, where it offloaded the rest of it's cargo to return to Asia. (in mid-November) leaving UK suppliers to ship their own stuff from the EU to the UK.

This month, 5 more MV ships have decided to skip Britain altogether, unloading British cargo in the EU, compounding the problem.

Those that are delivering to the UK are charging an additional "British Congestion" fee of 1000 to 2000 per can that they're not charging our European counterparts.

Now - given that we're leaving the EU and facing logistics meltdown, our feeder ports are already at capacity and struggling. and all these UK-destined containers are sitting at EU ports getting charged demurrage fees for $300 per day - the only solution is to ship them by HGV via Dover.

But guess what. - in 3 weeks we are [Poor language removed] when it comes to RoRo via Dover.

Already we are seeing problems. Some days the queues to board at Calais are stretching along the French motorways - right along to Belgium next door!

Basically, we're facing a Perfect Storm of logistics meltdown: - a combination of Brexit, Covid, global shipping issues, British inefficiency, lack of deepwater capacity, complacency and red-tape.

Amazing isn't. Just when you think things are bad enough, something pops to show you they're actually worse.

Problem is, people are continuing to live their happy, comfortable lives. So they believe everything is ok. This country won't wake up, until it's far too late.

Personally, I think there will be deal, because there has to be. I honestly don't think it will be a good one either. The EU will have our pants down, and it will sold by the Tories as the best thing since sliced bread.

Hardly any Brexit voters will say that immigration was the main issue. They come up with all this tripe of an ‘Eu army’ or ‘unelected bureaucrats’ That’s until you scratch the surface.
Truth is, that the majority have an deep mistrust of foreign people and have an ingrained colonial superiority complex.
I mean it’s obviously not just specific to the U.K., you see it all over the world. Just kinda thought we were better than that
Thanks for that Sigmund. I feel so much better with myself now.

Old news that I've just found out about. The ECMWF, one of the world's leading weather forecasting agencies, will be leaving its current location of Reading because of Brexit. New location likely to be Bonn or Toulouse.

I still find it really odd that very few Tory MPs have yet disused, or are pressed, on what they want from the deal.
Well that's not quite true is it. I must have heard it at least a hundred times from ministers and politicians that we are after a simple trade deal, like the one Canada enjoys, with no strings attached that will subject us to European law.

If I had to gamble, no deal dressed up as something like Mars ++ for the tabloids.

Covid or not, massive massive failure yet again from our 'government', deal or not.

lazy / inefficient = not hiring sufficient numbers of staff in enough time to avoid these eminently foreseeable problems

And infrastructure.

I’m disappointed that this disgraceful statement continually gets repeated on here. It is deeply insulting to leave voters to have this continually thrown at them as though they would have any truck with racists. But while Remainers continue to throw insults at those who voted to leave it no longer shocks me, because they no longer have any real input into the debate. Today has been filled with personal attacks, accusations, and then now the inevitable racist card attack. Almost no leavers bother to post in here anymore for very obvious reasons, and even though I’ve tried to continue to keep the debate alive find that the personal abuse isn’t really worth it anymore...so enjoy Brexit and enjoy whatever deal is done or not. You can have great fun debating with yourselves.....
It's only taken you four and a half years Pete but welcome to the club. lol

I bet you'll be back in here though. Initially as a lurker but also making the odd post. It's weirdly addictive.

Stating what you want and hope for is not what you should expect from a negotiation.

Areas of compromise, commonality and mutual benefit have not been mentioned. There isn't really a 'simple trade deal' when you have to unravel 40 years worth of integration.

What sovereignty are we willing to give up for example - every trade deal reduces a countries Sovereignty, but we don't know what the UK is willing to compromise on.

Fishing, another contentious area - again, where are we willing to compromise, what is acceptable to the UK?

Everything is demanding, defensive and EU phobic in our dealings to the point where we are willing to spite ourselves to not be willing to find middle ground.

Good grief if i hear another of the paid chattering classes talk about Pollocks as in fish on TV radio etc, I'll tell them to shut up and go away... Find all this trawling fish access, well a red herring for the easy minded. Much already is in the hands of very comfortable companies who are just looking to further acquire more access at the expense of small trawling one boat operations.
Much more interested in the state aid and trade legislation going forwards, I suspect its where this so called Brexit government does not anyone to look at.

BNP Combat 18, White wolves they all openly supported Brexit Leave campaigns. Many times here and elsewhere, and also you, I have asked for a known nationalistic racist political UK organisation that openly supported Remain? We are all judged by the company we keep. And if you are happy having political bedfellows as those mentioned agmonst others, that's on you and other Brexiteers.
