Hmm - I am not sure if he currently does. Remember he only needs a 40 vote swing, and recently he:

- has lost the support of every one of his predecessors. His snub of May last week was ridiculous - and May still has her supporters
- has lost Steve Baker and his zealots over the lockdown restrictions

He won't be far off a rebellion if his deal is too hot on alignment. And bare in mind too that a few of the Statutory Instruments still need NI consent, and now more than ever SF / DUP have him over a barrel. They need only hint at a break of the GFA and Biden / the House will mobilise to put the pressure on. And Merkel, astute as ever, got right out in front to hint very broadly at exploring an EU:US FTA again, should that happen we'll be cap in hand to anyone who will have us.

And based on this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54862746

I'd be amazed if the UKIM Bill survives in its current condition. I can't see it.
Farage has heard the alarm bells. No coincidence that he is chirping again either.

I wouldn't be that surprised if a TTIP2 isn't seen before we see a deal with the UK.

I‘m just sad that all of those who have insisted that all votes are counted and the result accepted in the USA are many of the same people on here who completely ignored and have tried to undermine our own vote. Trumpism and Remainers seem to go hand in hand In this respect. And for those who may take pleasure in the U.K. getting a potential worse deal or ‘pushed to the back of the queue’, remember who it is that will actually suffer as a result.....

Unfortunately it will mainly be the very people who voted for it (as might have been pointed out at the time but....forens)

Pete it'll be back to the drawing board for the current US:UK FTA now Biden has won.

- While the transition to Biden happens negotiations will pause.
- Clearly he's going to take a much, much more pro-Europe stance than Trump. The current US:UK proposed FTA was riddled with what could have become technical barriers to trade for the EU. That not won't happen.
- Any hope that the US would pick up the slack in the new year for the UK is now gone, or so unlikely that you cannot factor it in.

On the flipside, an outline UK:EU FTA has now never been more likely.

I really don’t like being bullied, by anyone. Personally I hope we now just walk away. If the USA or the EU do not want a trade deal and treat us as an Independent and Sovereign country, perhaps China would consider something advantageous on a number of levels...that might put the cat amongst the pigeons.....

Would certainly fit with our drift to authoritarian government

We should join major trading bloc tout suite. Especially one with an unelected government.

Still at least the China option would also be xenophobic

We’re getting bullied because the list of what we have to offer the world is

Real ale
Cheese

I think you miss my point. I’ve said this very early on in this thread. We are just a small nation that punches way above its size in Political, Military, Financial, Technological and Economic measures. But we have done our bit, the Pax Britannia, the Empire, the World Wars, the constant and regular expenditure of our blood and wealth for the benefit of the few while many of the U.K. people lived in abject poverty. I just want us to be who we are, trade with the world and allow our people to enjoy the fruits of their Labour. We still have a lot to offer the world, but not as a part of the United States of Europe, nor as a lackey of the United States of America. Just be who we are and make the best of our lives in the world working with those that want to....

So the USA is going to push its biggest overseas Invester and second largest country in Europe for it's own overseas investment,
to the bottom of the que, while trying to recover from the pandemic.
Because the president is a plastic paddy who doesn't like Boris.
yep makes a lot of sense that?
Not to me but seem to make perfect sense to some.

I do understand the parallels you've drawn, but the primary difference is that in four years time, the American electorate will be free to evaluate the success of this political decision and either opt to carry on or change course if they see fit. No such option has been afforded to the decision to leave, despite the increasingly sobering reality that there is simply no economic case for leaving.

Not to mention the fact that politically and militarily the U.K. is its only true ally....

If it turns out to be a bag of [Poor language removed] then the country can vote to rejoin. No doubt the EU would yet again extract an enormous price from us, but they would take us back. Why anyone would want to be part of something that treats such a close ally and friend like a piece of crap is for them to judge.....
