The EU has said it is willing to "intensify" talks on a trade deal with the UK this week to try and break the impasse between the two sides.
Its negotiator Michel Barnier said the bloc was prepared to discuss all areas of disagreement, including fishing and competition, based on legal texts.
The UK has accused the EU of dragging its feet and failing to respect its sovereignty in the negotiations.
But Michael Gove said he welcomed the bloc's latest "constructive" step.
In a Commons statement, the Cabinet Office minister said his "door was not closed" to further talks but the EU needed to fundamentally change its position for the process to continue.”.....

You seem to follow this quite closely.

Have you any idea what the situation will be with medicines and stuff, come 1st Jan? Like supply lines, conforming to some universal standards, security of delivery. That sort of stuff.

Reason I ask is, the pharmacist I have become sadly quite well known to these last 7 months, hasnt a clue, other than "I am sure something will be cobbled together".

May probably sums it up across the board tbh.

I may be wrong but I thought I read a couple of months ago that we would be stockpiling to get past any initial problems...

edit...

My reading of that is a bit misleading. Its actually asking UK drug suppliers to stockpile. (sensible).

My concern is more centred around the ability to import stuff we currently do, with no agreement post Jan with say China or the US. Like I said, meds may be a universal trade thing, no idea. Have you?

Think there was pandemic or something silly like that and everyone went and got their medicines... However, dont worry Nice have been rejigging prescription guidelines, so for instance for chronic pain, no more painkillers, instead you will be asked to sing kumbaya in group setting or something similar...

Sorry @roydo, ignore this sort of post. I’m sure your wife’s medicines will be sorted.......

I believe that it was to stockpile imported drugs also, in order to get around any potential problems. I’ll see if I can dig it out....

There is definitely some worry about how fragile the UK drugs supply chain is. Stockpiles have been eroded due to Covid and disruption to supply chains and there is some worry that there may be some difficulty in creating sufficient buffer stockpiles due to Covid.

A lot seems to be 'readied for no deal' like the NSDR (although if managing a Covid second wave it could be tricky) and central stockpile to reduce disruption. The government could always throw money at it seems scale up logistics or intervene in parts of the market if necessary.

If someone were enterprising they might consider investing in a warehouse with cold storage though....I imagine there will be some big government contracts available come Jan.
