I think everyone agrees that they should pay more tax, but is it illegal. If the Eu are so confident then why do they not ban the sale of all Apple products in the EU until this 'tax' is paid. I find it hard to believe that Apple would break the law. If they have then never mind a fine, people should be going to prison..........

Not too sure, let's see what happens.

Apple paid the correct tax on their income in Ireland. The issue, as I understand it and I'm sure it will be incorrect, is the income from elsewhere in the EU which was then transferred to an offshore business where no tax was paid. Obviously Apple should pay more tax, they are an absolute shower of greedy barstewards, but have they broken any laws ?. If the answer is no then Ireland and Apple should tell the EU to get stuffed. As the Eu is not a sovereign state, nor even a Political Union, does it even have the power to impose such a fine ? Either way this matter merely reinforces the view and aspirations of the EU to become a fully fledged Super State......we are well out of it.......

There is a part of me that thinks the EU are trying to obtain retrospective taxation powers. As you say, if they have worked 'within the regulations' then the fault lies with the regulations for being so lax. As with this country these regulations are drawn up by people who would most benefit from loopholes or lax regulations.

The EU has dropped a clanger, recognises civil unrest over taxation and tries to be tough, and as ever, tries to double edge its behaviour.

Imagine the damage.

I think it's a sad state of affairs when Ireland, a country in austerity which not so long ago was on the brink of absolute financial collapse, is rejecting a €14bn tax repayment despite the calls from lots to accept. This, all in the name of keeping Apple sweet.

Ireland is not rejecting €14Bn tax repayment. Ireland received the tax that should have been paid. The EU wants Ireland to collect the money, but where would it end up ? After all, some should go to UK, some to Germany, some to France etc, or does it go to Brussels for them to distribute as it sees fit. Obviously Ireland wants to keep Apple sweet as it has jobs and tax revenues to protect and would almost certainly gain nothing from the tax windfall. Ireland will be the big loser in all of this..........

PayPal, and EBay were once based in southern Ireland nothing new, just the EU have woken up to Bexit!

The bold type - this is the point. You buy your Iphone here in the UK using your bank card or credit card means the money was taken from your UK account therefore the sale is in the UK. However Apple ignore that and record the sale elsewhere as you have pointed out.
All these companies do it which is wrong the sales and receipts should be accounted for in the country in which the transaction took place and the profit arising from that similarly should be declared in that country.

Just think how the individual countries would benefit to cover their spending due to the extra tax.

David Davis answered questions on Brexit well today 1200 eu laws to correct, he told the SNP were to go answered questions well, obviously told one whinging Remainer he cannot disclose to much as in a game of poker you cannot show your hand first - article 50 to be signed in the new year, no vote on it by parliament as the Refferendum was passed by the parliament 6-1 in favour of the referendum outcome,
Labour some of them and the SNP just bad losers!
