Lest we forget, it was the British industry that was selling those licenses though Pete, no one from Europe was making them do it. It was the market that the Tories are supposed to love in action. No different really to, say, Finmeccanica buying Westland :).

Indeed, or going from London to Liverpool on trains from the Italian state railway.

We've been decimating our fish stocks since the 50s...

comes across as though the UK has fished everything out of the sea and has been doing since the 50's, but the UK fleet is only fishing approximately 30% in UK waters which is our allowable quota. Unless you mean a collective 'we' ?

I am not disagreeing with the sentiment, the fishing industry since the late 1800's and for about 60 years after has had it away and thought the good times would never end, a lot of people made a lot of money in their lifetimes and had no thought for anything else. Capitalism without some regulation is not a good thing.

Jim is right there has been succession of UK government who comoditised and liberalised our fisheries, with various policies. One such is how our government have managed the licensing...

The UK governments overall have been poor in practically everything they touch

Yeh I look forward to the post Brexit UK government distributing their new fisheries policy fairly. It would be ludicrous that the same few company's and families who benefited from EU quota system continue their privileges under policy, however, I go as far as Gove and say the same few will gain. Rule Britannia...

I've ordered 15 licenses already. I don't have a rod and can't swim, but it didn't seem to inhibit my application.

Bruce, I agree. But now we can reset the clock.....

Reneging on treaty obligations.
Oven ready deal.
Little Englanders.
The Tories.

Its been several hundred years since there has been an impeachment in Britain, but if that is true then they should seriously look at doing it again.

I'd even suggest doing what they did to Laud, who for all his faults didn't ruin this countries standing abroad as much as that would.
