I suspect it's being squabbled over for political reasons rather than meaningful reasons. National pride or some such. Economically it is unimportant. Even from a food security perspective it's unimportant.

I dont know if you were aware, that fishing rights were not part of the EU (I will call it that so others know what I mean, aka common market), that in the time between the official acceptance of the UK membership application and the UK actually signing the ‘join document’ the member states held an unscheduled meeting and drafted emergency legislation about fishing as they realised the economic value of it.

I will send you the source if you wish later (am on mobile atm & details of it are on my home pc)

But one ought to ask, what would the trade bodies and companies gain by misrepresenting their members thus?

Dunno bud, ask them not me.

And additionally, would it be possible for this government to provide poor legislation that's rushed and inadequate ?

I think its more than likely given the current chancer that is in charge of the circus

If it's not already clear by now, of all of the many things wrapped up in our EU membership, fishing is arguably towards the bottom of my list of priorities :-)

Hooray Brexit will never ever die brigade, Johnson was just the poster boy for a time, whoever was in charge of this mentalist car crash was going to have the same outcomes.

You would presume that if customs checks are more laborious that there will be a need for greater capacity to park vehicles while those checks are undertaken though? You obviously know more about this than any of us here, so do you think this is a problem that will be largely confined to Dover?

customs, well full border (including foods, plants etc) checks haven’t changed, the regime as prescribed in 625/2017 remains. The issue is the volume as we’ll now be checking EU goods coupled with RoW.

So across the U.K. the biggest affected will be those ports that have direct traffic with the EU (Dover, Eurotunnel, Heysham, Anglesey). These ports will have never dealt with checks; whereas as Felixstowe, Liverpool, Southampton etc have the infrastructure already in place (staff and expertise).

The smaller ports will have facilities built onsite, Dover and Kent have no physical space so a facility needs to built within the region.

Theres is a very bigger issues other than these articles that the press keep throwing out, and it’s something we are working on now and I’ve raised numerous concerns with it.

In my honest opinion, the government have handled this poorly but DEFRA want hanging out to dry

It's great to see we've taken back control to completely undermine Parliamentary Sovereignty.

Although it does appear to be unlikely to be used, it does tie in with concerns that the emergency legislation enacted in March gives the government a huge amount of power that they unsurprisingly seem unwilling to put back in its box, even as we're no longer in an emergency.

Everything they are geared up to do undermines Parliamentary Sovereignty. All the talk of 'law and order' and 'activist lawyers' should indicate to people a direction of travel for the UK.

They hate the rule of law and they hate Parliamentary Sovereignty.

yes, but to others its a very important issue.

had you said ‘unimportant to me’ then I doubt I would have posted conflicting information as it would have been an opinion of yours as opposed to the factual statement that it came across as.

It's a fairly unimportant issue for most in the UK I imagine.

by that rationale considering the numbers of UK citizens that live and work in the EU compared to the actual number of UK citizens, then the ability to live and work in the EU is unimportant for most in the UK as well, if we are going by the actual numbers

just because it does not affect someone directly it does not lessen the impact on other people. Empathy for others is sadly lacking and considering thats what leave voters seem to get pulled up on.....

Freedom of movement isnt just about living and working in the EU though. Its way wider than that. Holidays, mobile roving charges, driving, health cover, supply lines, hell, watching football even.

A whole raft of stuff just disappears, to be replaced by what?
