The Post-COVID-19 World Will Be Less Global and Less Urban - Knowledge@Wharton
The pandemic will reverse the trends of globalization and urbanization, leading to profound longer-term costs, writes Wharton Dean Geoffrey Garrett.knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu
Sums up my concern that the virus might be doing the job of the Brexiters for them.
Your concern?
Let me get my violin, there's a mea culpa coming...

Are you suggesting that Johnson lied, as he knew that he would always have had to introduce the border checks? Or are you suggesting that he never knew what he was talking about in the first place? It's not a good look either way, and we can now look at all the rest of his phoney promises through the same prism.
Yes. Politics are driving decisions as opposed to the science driving decisions. We live in very lean times regarding our political elite....Taking as a given that Johnson is a serial liar, the bigger question for me is what shape borders will be in during this thing. Schengen seems under immense strain at the moment, with various countries in Europe pledging to open borders for some countries, but not others. It's hugely concerning.

It should - must, really - make EU countries realise that to have open borders they need common laws, public health monitoring systems, alerts and so on. An effective continental level response to this might not have prevented the disease getting here, but it might have mitigated it considerably and it absolutely would have helped Italy and Spain during the worst phases.
The cozy world where individual states can pretend they are still relevant and also be in the EU is as dead as tens of thousands of people across the continent.
If they aren’t going to have these shared systems designed to protect everyone, in short to have an actual European Union, then there is no point in having open borders.
I would have thought it was obvious by now. It's only in the eleventh hour (sometimes the twelfth) that the EUs wheels actually start turning. The press conference today doesn't sound as though any meaningful progress has been made. Things are looking rather bleak.
