I think it's because we want tariff free access to their market more than they want tariff free access to our market. As such that's the conditions they have set.

And, they are clearly concerned about trust with the UK, so want to have the option of imposing unilateral retaliatory duties.

So we are supposed to Implement what ever tax regimes they want on 88-90 of our GDP for the pleasure of allowing them to sell more to us than we do to them. When this doesn’t happen with any other free trade agreement, while still expecting the U.K. to defend the EU and open up our waters. No wonder Boris is probably just going to tell them to sod off....

I'm sure a previous version of @peteblue will be along to tell you that this is the beginning negotiations and they won't end where they start...

But...what the EU sells to the UK aren't in the places where we can or will have tariffs, and we are a smaller export share of their economy than they are of ours. It's the point I was making to you about Ireland and their trade deficit, or if we want a better example, let's use Andorra, who have a trade surplus' with the EU. Does the EU need them more than Andorra needs the EU? You'd think that ridiculous.

Honestly Pete if you are griping that this, you're in for a shock when the USA come calling.

70% of UK fishing exports go to the EU, and fishing is far and away the most important industry we have.

Our fishing waters are some of the finest in the world, that's why the french and spanish love to rape our waters.

We will trade on WTO rules if the EU want to play games, that's exactly the stance Johnson is setting out, and we will have other countries queuing up to buy our fish, it's a premium product worldwide.

BUT THEY SELL MORE TO US THO
No there will be no tariff increases on imports from the EU, just for us exporting, that's the way it works in Bruce land.

British beef has been banned in China since mad cow disease was in our cattle, last year they lifted the ban.

Please don't use language like that. It makes you sound like a complete tit.

Forgot they don't have cows in China.

230 mil will definitely compensate farmers for their CAP subsidies, n all.

Why aren’t they already queuing up to buy it then?

What’s stopping them buying it already?

It couldn’t be the fact that our biggest fish export is fresh mackerel could it? I doubt that’ll travel well to Tonga ffs.
