....a deal containing things the ERG said were non-negotiable says all about the values of the politicians concerned. This was all about seizing power then keeping it.

5 more years with this deceitful man and Rees-Mogg in charge, 5 more years suffering the impotence of Corbyn and this Labour Party. The state of British politics, the state of British politicians.

I’m up for an Independent Liverpool.

You could officially join Ireland seeing as unofficially Liverpool has been described as Dublin's overflow!! :-)

Yes, it's a backstop with consent. Every four years, Northern Ireland can vote to get rid of this and then there'd be a two year period where it'd have to be negotiated again.

Which is surely why the DUP can't support it - they have no veto over this system.

Just reading the text now... first impression is this is the backstop reworked and doing the exact same thing. It will get the exact same response.

Johnson has done absolutely nothing different to what Theresa May did, except whittle down the Tories to a minority government. A breathtaking failure.
Bonkers isn't it. The BOJO crowd will be lapping this up as a huge win, but it's a deal and arrangements that have been absolutely condemned.

Remember when Boris Johnson described Chequers as 'polishing a turd' - well he's thrown some glitter on it as well and presented it again.

It's actually worse than the deal May had. The backstop provided certainty - this one doesn't. It means every four years (or eight depending on procedure) we'll have a circus where we could go back to square one. It'd also need to be a consideration for future arrangements, so if discussions create a change that NI don't like, they can effectively veto Brexit at any time.

Which is why you think the DUP will not back this.

They aren't well regarded in NI at present and the only thing they cling onto is Unionism. Breaking up the Union is not a good play for them.

The DUP not backing this is huge because some, if not all the ERG will go with them. Benn Act means an extension without a deal, so another referendum looks much more likely on the basis of today. Johnson's Deal vs Remain....

The electorate voted Out you just don't get it.....
You didn't even read what I posted.....BEFORE Cameron promised a referendum the EU was right at the bottom of voter's concerns, it was then that the leave campaign, promoted by the politicians came to the fore. Don't fecking lecture me on the vote, I acknowledge it was a vote to leave by a very small margin. Christ on a bike !!!!!

Not with Ukip rating highly in the polls that's what forced Cameron's hand -also the EU did not hep him with his bit of paper he waved on zilch changes when he came back from the EU......
