No progress was made on a new deal with the EU before the Benn Act was brought in and Gina Miller brought her case to the Supreme Court. If any deal is reached, Gina Miller and Hilary Benn should take the credit for forcing the government to act swiftly.

You should be saying a great big thank you to Hilary Benn and Gina Miller.

*On their behalf, you're welcome.

Bravo, excellent stuff, you are coming along well grasshopper......

It did seem odd yesterday that those claiming the dastardly EU would use the deadline and threat of no deal against us and the 'surrender Act' would mean concessions that will result in a worse deal than the one the PM resigned over, were simultaneously pumping the message that this all a massive win for Johnson.

We've seen consistently in this thread that a great many leave supporters have no idea what was in May's deal to begin with. They just regurgitate the lines they're fed by the media, who are in turn fed them by the government.

I won't have it.... Surely not. Wouldn't be like @peteblue and @Joey66 to say things with conviction without having done any sort of research or fact checking.

Incidentally, I think it's vital that a 2nd referendum is given, as it's almost certain that Johnson's withdrawal agreement will be 'harder' than May's, and will sell out NI into the bargain. The fact that he's brought back a 'deal' however would be nectar in a GE, especially if parliament rejects it (as it surely will). I guess we'll see what Labour and Corbyn are made of now.

Weasel words. Remainers only interest throughout the whole of the last three years or so has been to undermine the U.K. position and attempt to reverse the outcome of the referendum......

Again you fail to see that the UK had no position to start with to undermine. This whole thing was propped up by people believing that the EU would cave in to our every wish. It was never going to happen.

You can campaign for the nuclear option of no deal but is it worth dismantling our union for? That is the vote brexiteers should be pushing for if they want it so badly. Then it can go to the people do you understand what will happen if we leave and whatever way that flies is the way to go.

No one campaigned to break up the UK in the process and people should have a say on that.

The Brexit question was totally unthought through. It's like me saying I want to blast off in a rocket with Cindy Crawford, Jet from Gladiators and Natalie Portman to live on Mars in a room that only has one bed. As much as I want that and believe it will change my future for the better, I also understand that the negotiations may prove to insurmountable and the other parties might not have the same interest in the project as I do.

You have a bed.... it’s up to the other three to pull their socks up and find a way of getting their own beds... why should you offer to help somebody less fortunate than you (even though the benefits would be truly wonderful) when they can’t help themselves.

So far we have had, Project fear 1,2 & 3, the demonising of Leave voters (racist, too old, too stupid etc), no one voted for a hard Brexit, no one voted for a no deal, the cliff edge. Now we have breaking up the U.K., people are changing their minds, a people’s vote is required. All the while of course taking the side of the EU over the U.K.. Even now Remainers are plotting to delay, extend, revoke, anything to reverse the referendum. This is what is so sad. Instead of accepting the result and then doing their best to ensure a clean break and a trade deal, Remainers have dragged the country down and given it a good kicking, for what ?.....

The thing is Pete, the bit I've bolded is, to quote your hero, utter hogwash. People aren't backing the EU over the UK, they're backing an ideal of an open and tolerant world rather than the nationalist rantings of the Tory party. They're not against the UK but are against the Tory party, which is most definitely not the same thing, and it's a quite staggering level of hubris to believe they are. You don't speak for the UK, and Johnson certainly doesn't.

Of course they are. Your beloved Lib’s (I won’t use the Dem bit as it is patently absurd) have been back and forth to the EU promising to keep us in. Tony Blair has been over advising the EU how to engineer a reversal, so has Corbyn, Sturgeon etc by the Trainload. The Tory Party, in government, campaigned for Remain, as did all parties other than UKIP. The U.K. voted to leave. The Tory government promised to deliver on the vote. They didn’t pluck this out of thin air, they just promised to deliver on the Democratic will of the people of the U.K. Your mob just ignored the vote and continue to do so. This is why the parties opposed to Brexit will not allow a GE, because they know that the people will throw them out because of their absolutely disgraceful and anti-Democratic shenanigans......

You're cherry picking Pete. You're quite happy with the letter of democracy when it's your hero in power despite no one voting for him, yet expect an advisory referendum to be followed come what may.

If you accepted that your values around democracy are solely dependent upon your wishes being followed then that would be easier to accept, but you insist that you have some purity of purpose, which is frankly absurd.
