That's that then, the DUP says NO. Yet again.

Dodds warns mooted Brexit compromise 'cannot work'

'The DUP has poured cold water over a reported Brexit compromise to end the deadlock over the backstop. Deputy leader Nigel Dodds warned the mooted plan - reportedly being discussed by EU and UK officials in Brussels - "cannot work". Reports from the Belgian capital claimed British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sought to revive a proposal first put forward by former prime minister Theresa May for a customs partnership between the UK and the EU. The scheme, intended to avoid the need for customs controls on the island of Ireland, would see Northern Ireland remain politically in a customs union with the EU but it would be administered by the UK.

However Mr Dodds - whose party's votes will almost certainly be needed to get a Brexit deal through parliament - told the Italian La Repubblica newspaper that Northern Ireland "must stay in a full UK customs union, full stop". "It cannot work because Northern Ireland has to remain fully part of the UK customs union," he said. He added: "There is a lot of stuff coming from Brussels, pushed by the Europeans in the last hours, but one thing is sure: Northern Ireland must remain fully part of the UK customs union. And Boris Johnson knows it very well."

British officials have so far remained tight-lipped in the face of the reports.'

Nope

Bring it on. If your lot can't accept the sovereignty of parliament, you deserve all the kettling you get.

Because that's the issue here - you're moaning about democracy not going your way and simultaneously moaning about others not respecting democracy.

You're a hypocrite.

No Tubey, if the vote had been remain, you would have heard not one adverse comment from me, I would have accepted the result. You and a lot of Remainers however refuse to accept a result, so please do not call me what you yourself are displaying........

OK yeah.

The genie has been let out of the bottle, if Leave get a decent turnout and remain only just win, then within 10 years we will leave anyway.....

You and your mate Farage were doing exactly that on the results night.

Here's what has happened - Leave won a non-binary referendum, giving an indication of the will of the people to parliament. Parliament took that advice and activated Article 50 and negotiated. Our elected representatives cannot come to an agreement on the best way forward for our country, which is their job. They therefore have every right to act in the best interests of their constituents to the best of their ability.

Whatever parliament does, I'll accept. Whereas you won't. That's why you're a hypocrite - you're the one not accepting democracy by threatening "chaos" if Remain is an option in a second referendum.

Then you must acknowledge British negotiators have been shown their arse and their trump card is to ignore their own primary legislation and hope no one notices.

Indeed, our own parliament have stitched up the electorate and we are attempting to get whatever we can. Opposing leave is one thing, giving the EU all of the cards to push for a bad deal is something that won’t be forgiven......

No we weren’t. My quote was a simple matter of fact, that once such a vote takes place it will be repeated until ‘Leave’ happens, as per what is happening in Scotland.

Parliament is there to serve the people and not the other way around. The people told them we wanted to Leave, it was their job to put in place the mechanisms to do so, nothing else.....

Your electorate has been badly advised by their representatives as Ireland was always going to be the fulcrum.

On that basis alone, the Leave vote didn’t know what their were voting for beyond their their NHS buses and other empty promises.

You do realize that the referendum wasn't law abiding don't you?

Bollocks.

A simple question - if a democratically elected parliament decide to the best of their ability that the best way out of this crisis is a second referendum with remain on the ballot, will you accept the sovereignty of parliament - yes or no.

If no, you're a massive hypocrite. Simple as that.

We voted to leave, by a majority even larger than the whole of the NI electorate, leave and remain. It’s called democracy....

No, parliament. It's a parliamentary decision.

I'll make it easier - if parliament tomorrow passed a vote by even the margin of 1 MP to leave with no deal, I'd respect it immediately. I'd disagree, but I'd respect it and it'd have to happen. It'd be law. It's why the Benn Act has to be followed - it's law.

The referendum was not law. It was advisory. The MPs have taken it on board - that's why we're discussing it three years later - but it was never defined as to what Leave was. If it was as easy as "leave means leave", we wouldn't be here now.

So respecting democracy is respecting the sovereignty of parliament. You are refusing to do that, yet condemning others for not respecting democracy. That's why I use the term 'hypocrite', because it's 100% accurate.

Absolute bullshit and you know it. Either we have a process to elect a government or we don’t. If we don’t have a government who can run the country then we should elect one that can. These political shenanigans are a disgrace to our country and your use of the word hypocrite is better suited by looking in the mirror. All you are after is a result that overturns a referendum voted for by an unparalleled number of voters. You dismiss them as ignorant, racist and every other demeaning term, absolutely disgraceful. Our country will never recover if we allow politics to overturn the vote, and that’s why they will not allow a GE, because they know what will happen. Now just be honest and say so.....
