There is no doubt in my mind at all that Johnson wants a no deal outcome. The issue with that is that the Benn Act (almost certainly) stops that, so Plan B for him is to save his own neck by getting a deal over the line. Johnson cares about Johnson, no one else.

He's challenging the DUP and the ERG to take a Brexit as opposed to the Brexit they wanted.

In essence, it's May's Withdrawal Agreement all over again, but with the added impetus of a ticking clock on the Brexiteers, who really are now risking no Brexit at all.

Which was always the sane thing for them to do, and it might work - they will probably vote for this thinking (correctly) that they can mess it up once we leave, and the ex-Tories and the likes of Kinnock will vote for it as well and then be surprised what happens.

"Pathway to a possible deal". Hmmmm, there's been a pathway to a possible deal since 2017 and everyone knows what it is but the DUP won't go down it.

Not much happening then other than a statement that nobody has thrown the towel in just yet and they will keep trying until the time runs out.

Extension to A50 it is then, followed by an election and a referendum when hopefully this whole farce will be cancelled.

I would rather see the new Referendum first.

Thanks. I'm just saying it's clear everyone knows more now than they did 3.5 years ago. I'm not saying Leavers didnt know ehat they voted for but everyone can agree we all know more now. For that reason I support a 2nd referendum and cant understand why anyone that believes in democracy wouldnt.

5 million Tories voted to Remain. What's the issue?
The final vote .....

Just seen that progress has been made in negotiations with Varadkar (is he even Irish with that sort of name?TM @peteblue) and Johnson.

Johnson won't accept a separate Northern Ireland. But the EU don't want a hard border and neither do NI and Ireland. Nothing that Johnson has so far proposed is anything other than a hard border (in spite of his rhetoric).

So presumably we are going to have the Theresa May 'Customs Partnership' rebadged as a 'victory for Boris'.

Interesting take on todays talks from Preston - who sees it as strategy from Johnson to avoid facing a showdown within his own party.

Ireland and the EU never had any objection to two separate customs areas in Ireland, they just won't accept a hard border.

Where are the custom checks carried out? Is there a return to the May deal of the regulatory alignment - the one the DUP scuppered?

Think that's it yes. Can't see what else it could be. Regulatory & customs checks in the Irish sea. NI leaves the Customs Union but acts as part of it for administration purposes.
