by animal welfare I was referring to poor hygiene practices within abattoirs, I could have chosen better wording (even though welfare of animals is an issue in these circumstances). However there is no human risk element from chlorinated chicken, as per an EFSA report

although 853/2004 does have the requirements for the washing of such products in water the argument has been back forth with the commission to reduce the levels within their regulations. The carcinogenic risk is nonexistent, it’s the same issue with the migration of melamine and polyamide from Chinese plastics

No DIRECT human risk but I firmly believe that over use of antibiotics and chlorination leads to greater antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and so to a serious indirect human health risk.

It will of course be different for everyone. Our trade with the Eu is but a small part of our overall GDP. Most people will not be affected at all.....
that's just your trade with the EU, what about trade with all the other countries?
You're not going to be able to negotiate better deals than what you have via the EU.
In fact, given your handling of Brexit, I'd be worried about your economy being picked apart.

I sincerely hope even the strongest leavers would recoil from such remarks. As a country we're surely better than that?
The stronger they are, the more wreckless they are. They'll be delighted by the anti-German tone. It plays into the white van man demographic, or so they think.

On the flip side, I agree, though, with this analysis from Paul Mason on Johnson going for no brexit ..

Not judging by twitter and the stupid vox pops bbc news do on high streets in the middle of the day to get opinions
Will go down well with the large chunk of brexit boomers who talk about blitz spirit and the EU army and like to cling to WW2 like they had anything to do with it

Not really, many of these EU trade deals are actually with quite small economies. The bigger ones such as Japan, Canada will get rolled over and new free trade deals with the likes of the USA, Australia, NZ, Mercosur et al will follow. We are not as big as the USA, EU, China or Japan, but these apart, the U.K. economy is bigger than every other country in the world, so I’m not quite sure why you think we will be unable to get decent deals....
